Show Brigadoon Opens at PAAT '"Brigadoon" will open Feb. 24 :il the Pioneer Memorial Theater. '"Brigadoon" is the story of two voting New Yorkers who get lost during a hunting trip in the Highlands of Scotland. As they are contemplating their fate, a lift in the Highland mist reveals to ihcm the awakening of the village of Brigadoon. a village that comes into being for only one day of each century . What happens to them, ihc conflicts of the people and the beauty of a romance that must span centuries, makes for an enchanting and poignant evening. even-ing. The music is by Frederick Loewe and the book and lyrics are by Alan Jay Lcrner, "Brigadoon" has been called a masterpiece of a musical. John Fcarnley has returned (he directed "Carousel" last season) from New York to direct. Mr. Fcarnley won a Tony Award nomination as best director of the year for his revival of "Brigadoon" "Briga-doon" at the New York City Center. He has directed countless musicals and plays in New York, for national tour, in Europe and Australia. Since directing "Carousel" "Car-ousel" here last season, he has: directed "Show Boat' (starring Robert Peterson) at Jones Beach on Long Island, written (with Richard Lcwinc) a new evening of comedy entitled "Anyone We Know?" directed the national touring company of "The King and 1" starring Yul Brynner and Constance Towers. Robert Peterson, who starred at PMT in "Kismet" and also last summer at Jones Beach in "Show-Boat. "Show-Boat. " plays the romantic lead. Tommy Albright. H.E.D. Rcdford is his side-kick, Jeff Douglas. Kelly Kennedy is the lovely Fiona. Marsha Miller the mis-vious mis-vious Meg Brockie, Harold F. Folland is w ise Mr. Lundie. Maria Brattian and Norman A. Brown act and dance as Jean MacLaren and Harry Beaton. Fred Buchanan Bucha-nan is Andrew MacLaren and Art Moldcnhauer is Charlie Dal-rymplc. Dal-rymplc. Others in the cast arc: Michcal A. Blaina. Richard Cannady. Cheryl Henoch. Lisannc Purvis and E. Scott Wells plus the townspeople of Brigadoon. Briga-doon. (24 singers and dancers). The w himsical loveliness of the Highlands has been captured in striking settings by Ronald Crosby. Carol Wells Day has created the gay IMth Century costumes and Gary Daines has designed the lighting. Larry Baslian. Musical Director, Direc-tor, also directed the music for "Carousel" at PMT last season. Nina Janik. chreographer, has ci'iiie.back (she also did "Carousel" "Carou-sel" last season) from New York," where she just completed the choreography for Ihe Off-Broad-wav production of "Boys From Syracuse." "Brigadoon" will play Feb. 24 through March 1 1 al 8 p.m. (except Sundays) with a matinee on Saturday. March 4 at 2 p.m. |
