Show Local Youth Injured in Fog Mishap the intensive care unit. Gardner was listed in satisfactory condition condi-tion at press time. According to highway patrol trooper Frank Marcellin, who was called to the scene, visbility was A Summit Park youth was seriously injured last Wednesday morning when the car he was driving plowed into the rear of a stopped van in heavy fog near Prospector Village. Scott Gardner, 19, son of Bill Gardner of Gardner Realty, was trapped in the wreckage for one hour before being freed by the rescue squad of the Park City Fire Department. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake, where he reportedly spent several days in only 50 feet when the accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. A 1969 Chevy van, driven by Mark Clark, 20, of Heber City came to a complete stop while travelling west on highway 248 near the entrance to Prospector Village, just east of the Park City limits, Marcellin said. Another car, also heading west behind the van and just ahead of Gardner veered into the oncoming oncom-ing traffic lane and missed the van, but the youth apparently failed to see the stopped vehicle. Trooper Marcellin said an inspection of the road showed no sign of skid marks, indicating Gardner had no chance to brake prior to impact. |
