Show Hikes, Studies, Prizes, Programs, Clean-Up Details Comprise Very Successful Summit 4-H Camp year, especially to Doug Hawkins Haw-kins who really made a "hit" with all the young people; the Forest Service for providing such a beautiful camp site. We are also proud of the boys and girls for the enthusiasm that was shown in cleaning up the campgrounds prior to our departure. Much of the litter they collected was not of our doing but they whole-heartedly pitched in and left the area in excellent condition. Another successful Summit County 4-H Camp was held July 12, 13, 14 at Smith-Moorehouse with about 260 members, leaders lead-ers and friends attending. Lilly Jean Atkinson acted as Camp Mayor and Cindy Crittenden, Crit-tenden, Secretary. 4-H Council Coun-cil Members in charge of camp were Albert Wagstaff, Kamas, and Edna Atkinson, Oakley. Two special leaders from Utah State University added a variety of interesting activities at camp. Carl Johnson, Extension Exten-sion Forester, had a very complete com-plete nature display and conducted con-ducted nature hikes and studies. Doug Hawkins, a recreation major, led out in many exciting relays along with a tug of war across the creek, which ended with most everyone beingpulled through the cold water a number num-ber of times before the boys would give up and admit the girls could out do them. Of course, the boys were slightly outnumbered but that wasn't considered. Henry Williams, Henefer, conducted a very informative gun safety demonstration. Rell Argyle was introduced as the new Summit County Extension Ex-tension Agent working with the 4-H programs in Summit and Wasatch. Miss Linda Durfee, the new Extension Home Economist Ec-onomist in Wasatch County, was with us as she will be working in the Kamas and Park City areas of Summit County also. Mrs. Sharlene Anderton took charge of the campfire programs pro-grams and awards assemblies and announced winners as follows: fol-lows: Nail Driving, first-Bart Johnson, boys; Christine Carter, Car-ter, girls; Verdell Pace and Bonnie McCormick, leaders. Log Sawing Contest: Chris Mitchell and Blake, boys; Laurie Page and Kris Lewis, girls; Donna Jenkins and Karen Richins, leaders. First prize for clean camp went to Edna Atkinson's group from Oakley; second place to Peggy Rundell's and Carla Sue Beal's group and third place to the Spooky Spagettios, Bonnie McCormick leader. Awards were given for the best skits to the 'Hoytsville Humdingers" led by Donna Jenkins Jen-kins and Karen Richins, Hoytsville; Hoyts-ville; 'The Nutty Crackers", LuWana Fitzgerald, Kamas; "The Nimble Thimbles", Ver-Dell Ver-Dell Pace and Betty Reynolds, Wanship; "The Hoytsville Happy, Hap-py, Hoggy Hams", Pam Bates, Hoytsville; 'The Busy Bees", Bonnie Ovard, Henefer; and the "Country Hicks", Susan Braith-waite Braith-waite and Kathy Judd, Hoytsville. Hoyts-ville. Henefer was given a special award for having the most 4-H members in attendance at the awards program. Edna Atkinson challenged Mr Argyle to a sack race. After several rolls in the dirt by both contestants, it was hard to determine the winner because of the dust but the race provided pro-vided some good laughs for all observers. Mr. Argyle should be cautioned to keep in condition condi-tion for this race because we believe Edna runs it at least once a day to stay in shape for the annual event. Mr. Moore attended the campfire program on Wednesday Wednes-day evening and was presented with a T.V. clock by the 4-H members and Council in appreciation ap-preciation for the years of faithful faith-ful service he has given to the interest of many boys and girls in the county. The Extension wishes to express ex-press appreciation to all those who assisted with the camp this |
