Show to protect and serve the interests inter-ests of the community and its members who did employ me, particularly where their interests inter-ests conflict with the Company's Mr. King is employed by Greater Great-er Park City Co., he is paid handsomely by them, and he is there to protect the Company's interests and do its bidding. Because of our laxity and credulity, cred-ulity, we have permitted Mr. King to do a better than average aver-age job for the Company, at the expense of our city. I have been stopped by dozens of townspeople who upbraided me for the town granting permission per-mission for the building of the Homestake condominiums and imploring me to exert all my efforts on the Council and on my fellow council members to stop this constructionandridthecity of all such future ugliness. Others were concerned that placing housing next to an industrial indus-trial area, rr. spurs and all, will make instant slums; that trailers have a place in this town, but not in that area. Since Mr. King's letter ap-, peared in print making it abundantly abund-antly clear where I stand on the issue (for which I thank him), many persons who now know where I stand have called to express their appreciation for my stand and my courage, to offer their support, and to pray that I and the remaining Council Coun-cil will suppress this project, particularly in that location. (I understand even your own architects deplore it). The Concerned Con-cerned Citizens for a Clean Summit County have likewise in a body voiced their objection and fortified the unorganized opposition which does exist, .despite your letter slanted to . make it appear that my stand is a personal one unsupported by law or logic or by anyone except ex-cept me. I have yet to have one I repeat, not one person approach ap-proach me to tell, me that he favors the project. If I am a representative of the people, it is my sworn duty to act in response to their expressed wishes where they can do nothing noth-ing individually but the Council can act for them. I have no alternative. I will continue to vote the conscience and the will of the people as it has been overwhelmingly expressed to me. The people of Park City are entitled to demand nothing less that that of me, of Mayor Sullivan, and of the remaining Council members. Mary Lehmer, Councilwoman and a citizen town. Before you pat yourself on the back though, remember that you are also a part of this city, and believe me, all of the very visible, and much discussed dis-cussed problems in this city did not spring up overnight like onions. I believe now as I did in January, Jan-uary, that proper management, fiscal competence, and adequate personnel and equipment can easily solve most of the crisis we have. We had a good start with the hiring of Mr. Veeder, and if anyone doubts that good management is well worth the cost, nay a necessity at any cost, ask all of the City employes em-ployes what they think. I know most of them were against it at first, but after they found out what a little direction could do to their lives and jobs, they now are in favor of it. It sure was an improvement from six people running for office on two Thursdays Thurs-days a month trying to supply the administrative direction to this town. As far as results, in two months we had more real progress pro-gress in almost all areas of the city administration than we have apparently had in many years. It broke my heart to see the only significant thing done by the Council leave, and return to Aspen. It makes all of the streets (holes) worse, the efforts ef-forts of a few individuals seem futile, and the annual April eruption of the sewer system more terrible and imminent than ever before. In view of all these things, particularly our inability to perform the basic functions of a city, this present vendetta against the Resort would be laughable, except for the reality that it is possible to lose what we have and destroy ourselves through misinformation and lack of cooperation. Let us try to get our priorities prior-ities back into perspective. (Signed) Bob Hayes Member Park City Council In response to Mr. J.Warren King's letter that his company has been subjected to unwarranted unwar-ranted 'harassment' in connection connec-tion with its Homestake condominiums, con-dominiums, which 'unfair and unwarranted action appears to originate with Councilwoman Mary Condas Lehmer, whose reasons are beyond my understanding", under-standing", please let me advise ad-vise Mr. King of the reasons for my actions. I disagree first that anyone is attempting to usurp powers not granted to him under the Constitution of our statutes. The Planning Commission, and the City Council on appeal, are empowered em-powered and obligated under our Zoning Code to regulate aesthetic aes-thetic values such as color, architectural design and construction con-struction where such affect . .. the general welfare of the community, com-munity, despite Mr. King's innuendoes in-nuendoes and implications that no such powers exist. And I believe that any member of the Planning Commission or the City Council is remiss in his duty when he does not devote his entire energy to seeing that such laws as we have are upheld up-held and enforced. The more Mr. King becomes excited and the more villifica-tion villifica-tion he attempts to heap upon me, the better it proves that I am discharging my responsibility respon-sibility to the townspeople who elected me to serve their interests. inter-ests. I am not employed by Greater Park City Co. I am not on their payroll. I am not here to do their bidding. I am here We Get Leflers Concerning the Homestake Condominium project, I was dismayed at first to see what looked like housetrailers being be-ing placed next to Anderson Lumber. I was also led to believe that they were shoddily built, and overpriced. Upon further investigation of the project, construction, plans for landscaping, and price range offered, I find that they are better bet-ter constructed buildings than the majority of homes being erected at the southern end of town, and are equitable inprice. They are pre-built indoors and delivered to the site by highway high-way transportation. Therefore, the individual segments must be substantially stronger than normal nor-mal framing, and must be of dimensions suitable to pass along the roads. The segments are then set into place on foundations found-ations to form the completed building. The finished units will be two-story buildings about the size of The Edelweiss, and will not resemble housetrailers in any way, except that the interiors inter-iors will be somewhat smaller than the higher priced condominiums condom-iniums offered in other sections of Park City. As far as price is concerned they are offered at a range lower than has previously been asked in this area. In order to generate cash to offset some of the substantial losses The Resort Re-sort has had to sustain in order to operate the business, and construct the amenities that make this a viable community For those of you who find the Resort distasteful, and the fact that they would prefer to make money on occasion, rather than consistently lose it, even less to your liking, I would suggest you ask yourself a few questions: ques-tions: Exactly what has the Resort done to damage this City? When have they significantly signif-icantly profited, except througn the ineptitude of your city government? gov-ernment? (Even that is highly debatable). de-batable). What City services do we, the Municipal Government of Park City, provide the largest taxpayer in town? And last but most important, what are you doing to try and find out the facts, co-operate, and work towards to-wards making this city a success both environmentally and financially. Presently, the biggest detriment de-triment to this city is its own government of which I am a part. We are without a doubt, the biggest damn nuisance in |
