Show Commissioners Plan Television Transmitter High on Lewis Peak Summit County Commissioners Commission-ers held their monthly meeting meet-ing in the Court House Wednesday, Wednes-day, Aug. 4, 1971. In attendance attend-ance were: Reed Pace, County Clerk; Koy Page, Carlos Porter, Por-ter, Melvin Flinders, commissioners, commis-sioners, and Alan Franson, County Attorney. The Commissioners said that plans are going ahead for the erection of the television transmitter trans-mitter at Lewis' Peak. Discussions Dis-cussions on obtaining right-of-way are still in the hopper. The right-of-way is necessary neces-sary for establishing power, building a road and for main-tainance main-tainance when the project is completed. The cost of taking power to this point is estimated at $16,000.00. The commissioners have set aside in their budget, $15,000 toward the television transmitter transmit-ter project. They expect to accumulate ac-cumulate additional funds each year. This will represent less than a one mill levy according to Commissioner Porter. To begin with, a county road must be established so a steel building can be erected at the top. Following this move, KUED will move in to place a $8,000.00 transmitter so that Summit County will be able to receive educational programs through this channel. The commissioners com-missioners feel that the groundwork ground-work that is being laid will make it possible for other channels chan-nels to participate in better all around transmission of all programs. Also, this will open the way for such important companies as the Bell Telephone, Utah Power and Light, Mountain Fuel and the Highway Patrol to use this spot for extending their communication systems - so that they might reach outer areas they are unable to reach at this time. Commissioner Porter also advised that they had erected two new bridges in Weber Canyon Can-yon to replace previous inadequate, in-adequate, narrow bridges. One is near Hidden Lake and the other is further east. They have been erected to standard road widths and will accommodate all weights. New oil has also been laid on access to the bridges. The commissioners are proud to announce that the Summit Sum-mit County Hospital isnowfully accredited as a Medicare Hospital. Hos-pital. Income from the hospital has greatly increased over the last two to three year period, primarily due to improvements made necessary to get ready for this program. A special thanks was expressed expres-sed by the commissioners to the hospital board for their past efforts and also to former Commissioner Com-missioner Ken Woolstenhulme for the work he had done as chairman of the Hospital Board in connection with the County Commission. Koy Page will be replacing Mr. Woolstenhulme in this capacity. Also, the commissioners commented on the fact that the Court House is receiving a new coat of paint - the first in 25 years. Many other problems were discussed by the commissioners com-missioners before the close of this meeting. |
