Show i If II -:; 1 jLJrt,tq..W.. 3 E sfti?ys lam s Saturday, August 31, the stock barn at Mountain Meadow 1. Ranch was completely destroyed by fire. K ft Fortunately no livestock was lost. Hugh Sweeten, owner of the ranch, estimated the total ' loss at about $10,000. Lost in the fire were two antique sleighs, assorted riding gear and a lot of hay. Mr. Sweeten discovered the blaze at about 3:40 p.m. r and made an attempt to rescue some of the contents. He said, "We darn near saved the sleigh. We had a rope tied to it and were pulling it out but the rope came untied. We rush- 1 ed back in to tie it again but it was too late." The siren blew in Park City at 3:45 and the volunteer fire department rushed to the scene but the barn was too far gone to be saved. They did, however, do a fine job of preventing prevent-ing the fire from spreading. As one person put it, 'If the fire department had been a little later in arriving, with all these dry weeks, the fire could have spread throughout the valley." People came from all over the valley to lend a hand. Mr. Sweeten said, "It makes a person darn proud to know he has so many fine friends." |
