Show their own community . On August 1, 1938 an Icelandic Monument was dedicated at Spanish Fork. The monument of lighthouse design, de-sign, 22 ft. high, burns a light in the tower as a symbol of early Icelandic pioneer courage. the first group ..ame they were sent to Spanish Fork by Brigham Young because a group of Danish immigrants had settled there. The Icelandic group speaking a language no one else understood, under-stood, did not settle near the Danes, but instead they settled on the three bears I believe. Also saw one of the Dodge boys from Dodge Refrigeration. Wayne Goff , grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Fritch is going to be one of the faces to be seen around as of the last of February. Wayne will be attending attend-ing the U of U for the next two years. Wayne is the son of Wayne and Effie Goff now living in Nampa, California. Also at the Fritch home this weekend was son Clyde from Anchorage, Alaska, who stopped off to say hi to the family enroute to school in Tennessee in connection con-nection with his job. The Marsac Faculty entertained enter-tained at a luncheon in honor of Mrs. Stewart W. Evans (nee Miss Jacquelin Lugibihl). The table was centered with a two-tiered two-tiered cake gaily decorated with a bride and groom. The favors being dainty gold and white baskets , the handiwork of Mrs. Aline Gibbons. Miners Hospital had a very quiet week. Admitted were: Le-ona Le-ona Hall, Gary Frantz, Jane Boulton, Milton Carlson and Glenn Upton. Centennial Side Glances: Iceland in Utah. The first permanent icelandic settlement in the United States and Canada Can-ada was established in 1855-60 in what is now the east part of Spanish Fork. The settlement was made by a group of Icelandic Ice-landic Mormon Pioneers. When Chit-Chat With Bea IF YOU DIDN'T get down to the resort Saturday or Sunday, you should have, as the Coca Cola Company sponsored a snow sculpturing contest. It was almost like a Sunday at the Zoo except all was done in snow. There were turtles, dragons, bears, lions, horses, prehistoric animals, trains, cars, a greatest snow on earth machine, Kings, Queens, sphinx so many things to see and such art. There were large Coke bottles, cartons of Coke bottles, Coke seemed to be in a lot of places, a carton of eggs, alarm clocks, castles, even an old time saloon scene, card game going on, guns in hand, the whole bit. The golf course seemed like a small city by Saturday afternoon, after-noon, as many watchers as doers. Amazing results, these artists at work. One thing for sure the golf course from Three Kings to the ticket office sure took on a new look. Did see a familiar face here and there, Ed Fraughtonandhis children were workingdiligent-ly workingdiligent-ly on a King, very handsome he was, Jennifer Giddings, Mike Dontje, John Sharp and Jim Patterson were doing a fine job |
