Show Bees WAXING by Mary Bee EVERY WORKING MOTHER occasionally has a sick kid to worry about If they are really sick of course you take the day off but if they are just a little you 1 leave e a v e them home alone and promise to keep in touch by phone It isn't necessary to call them they will call you Im I'm hungry and I cant can't find any cereal I left him oranges soup juice sandwiches why cereal Because he wo would d live on cereal if Id I'd allow it He cant can't understand why I in insist insist insist in- in on his eating other unnecessary unnecessary unnecessary sary items like meat and eggs and vegetables After all all the TV commercials say cereal is packed with vitamins and nutrients nutrients nutrients nut nut- rients and he likes cereal so why bother with all that other stuff WILL YOU BRING ME some crayons and paper Right Now Mamma Im I'm bored will you play playa a game with me From here Oh cOh Ive I've figured that out Ill I'll shake the dice for you and you can tell me how to move your man See what I mean So it goes the whole day He even calls me to outline the plots on the TV soap operas THIS WEEK my sic sick k boy really had a problem Since our plumbing got plugged plugged plugged plug plug- ged up weve we've h had d a bucket under WIder the kitchen sink drain Plumber keeps promising hell he'll show up this week for sure The trouble with buckets under WIder sink drains is that they have to tobe tobe tobe be emptied So Bob left the water running running running run run- ning and forgot to empty the bucket Mamma the b bucket u eke t under WIder the sink overflowed and theres there's water all o 0 over v e r the kitchen floor Well mop it up Wheres the mop On the porch where it al always always always al- al ways is EVER SO OFTEN school willbe will willbe willbe be out for the day and a working working working work work- ing mother has to worry about all her kids being home alone Too old for baby sitters too young to stay alone Now your phone calls take on ona ona ona a completely different tone Mamma Bobby is teasing me I cI I am not notI This you can hear yelled from a distance He is too he walked on my dolls I cI I was just trying to walk through the room and she had all her dumb dolls spread out so I COt couldn't get by But he didn't have to step stepon on EVERY DOLL did he IVE I'VE FOUND from experience experience experience exper exper- that it doesn't do any good to ask to talk to the guilty one he wont won't come corne to the phone anyway Another rule often broken is the one forbidding any friends over to play while Im I'm not home The younger ones will either ither tattle or blackmail their older brothers and sisters who try to break this rule Younger friends a are r e unceremoniously sent home with threats to call their mothers mothers' if they dont don't go Once in awhile when there hasn't been a complaint from home for some time Ill I'll get suspicious and call them If they are busy or doing something forbidden they will cut the conversation short as possible Then I wonder that they've been up to If they dont don't answer I wonder wonder wonder won won- der whether the house has burned burned burned burn burn- ed down or they violated another rule and left the yard or whether all three got run over by a truck Like I say working mothers mothers mothers moth moth- ers would be much better off if school was every day and kids never got the sniffles Mary Mary Bee |
