Show County Agrees To Co Operate CoOperate Fully on Memorial Building A delegation of interested Park City citizens met with three Summit County officials Nov 20 to discuss plans and the areas of for the recreational use of the Summit County Memorial Building in Park City An exchange of ideas and information regarding the buildings building's purpose and use was made at the meeting Though Pat has been involved in sponsoring and supervising sports with Park City children for the past 13 years he felt that not enough was being done He said that sports like baseball and volley volleyball volleyball volleyball ball games were at an all time low and that the equipment for these games were non The children in the community community community ity were not in any recreational pro program g ram except thi these se ce sponsored by the local sch schools and churches and that the arge gym in the Memorial Building was not being used except once in a great while He remarked that many of the teenagers have been hanging around Main street parking in cars or just driving up and down the city streets with nothing nothing nothing noth noth- ing to do Talking with other parents in the area he found that they too were concerned They came up with the idea to appropriate extra money which might enable the group to equip and repair the recreational facilities in the Memorial hall This group became the Park City Civic Committee and or organized organized organized or- or a benefit dance to raise money to refurbish game equipment equipment equip ment and reactivate supervised use of the Memorial Building They advised the county officials officials officials that any new equipment purchased and put into the building building build build- ing would be a donation to Summit County from Park City This equipment which would be become become be- be come the property of the county would be a available v a 11 a b 1 e to any groups group's supervised use whether they were from Park City South Summit or North Summit communities Commissioner Durrant told the Park City delegation that the Memorial Building was a 1936 work project and built as asa asa asa a tribute to World War I vete vete- rans It was donated to Summit County by the Federal Government Government Government Govern Govern- ment in 1939 Its primary use was for the benefit of the adults in the county Over the years various activities activities activities have been held in the building and it became the hub of Park City childrens children's recreation program However in recent years because of the vandalism to the building has been the liaison between the County Commission and the building He has been the only person to make recommendations or and/or requests to the commission on the needs in inthe inthe
