father while covering news stories for forthe forthe forthe the local newspaper ALTHOUGH HE had me stay in the car he recalled I cy itched to be at the scene Later when my father was deputy marshal of Bountiful this too left its impression on me and it stayed with me until I was old enough to do something about it As Mr l Stahle worked into law enforcement he found it to be a a. profession of many fields He gave the following as suggestions suggestions suggestions lawyer doctor minister minister minister minis minis- ter counselor youth leader public speaker and last but not least police officer THE REASON I like law en enforcement enforcement enforcement en- en work Is because of its di diversity Chief Stahle stated You work with the rich and poor and every day brings new and different experiences A native of Bountiful Mr Stahle is a son of John and Lucile Lucile Lucile Lu- Lu cile Stahle Stable owners and publishers publish publish- ers of the Davis County Clipper He was involved in the newspaper newspaper newspaper per business until he was out of high school HE DECIDED that it was time for a change and he entered the Salt Lake Barber College working as a barber until his marriage At this time he re returned returned returned re- re turned to the printing business Niles Stahle married Donna of Clearfield and they and their children Brenda 9 Julie 7 Leslie 4 and Brian six months live in Woods Cross IN ADDITION to his police duties Mr l Stahle's hobbies include In Include Include In- In clude horses particularly the western stock horse As often as possible he joins with friends for a wild wildhorse horse hunt One day he hopes to have a horse ranch of his own Chief Stahle joined the Bountiful Bountiful Bountiful Boun Boun- police reserve In 1958 In Inthe his appointment as mar marshal s h a 1 of Woods Cross the community had no police department He lie started start start- ed from scratch to organize the department using his own car at 1 I Ir Iu u r rV V 1 NILES STAHLE LE first But by the end of that year they had their own department car with radar two way radio and they were on 24 hour call DECIDING to make police work his career he was offered a full time job as a policeman for Bountiful in 1962 He was with the department for a few months when Woods Cross was able to hire a full time man so he returned to work for the them m. m Woods Cross was made a I third class city and his rank j i changed from marshal to chief of police As chief of police Mr Ir I Stahle organized a reserve unit in 1963 which consisted of 11 men Four of the men were investigation investigation investigation search and seizure arrest procedure for juveniles police adm collecting collecting collecting collect collect- ing and preserving evidence The latest school Association Association tion and the Tri County gators The greatest problem facing the police today Chief Stahle advises is Mis public apathy The police have in the last 25 years improved on the professionalIsm professional- professional Ism of their own ranks But part of the problem now is getting the public to become involved with the problems of the community and to see the best solution to these problems |
