E Gailey Galley C. C LeRoy Clayton Albert Barton and James Egbert TEN YEARS after its organization tion in the depths of the depression depression depression depres depres- sion a group of different board members decided to add other supplies and gas to their list of cooperative purchases for their members With a loan from the bank and worth of credit credits from a gas and oil broker they located in a gas station at the corner of Main and Center Streets in Kaysville With Jess Thornley as manager manager manager man man- ager the op Co-op gave all the profits back to the me members at atthe atthe atthe the end of each month The board soon realized that they were not expanding in this manner so they voted to retain the profits and is issue issue issue is- is sue certificates of interest to the members IN 1943 THEY purchased land landon on the corner of First North and Main where they built a gas station station station sta sta- tion with an additional storage and sales area for their other supplies supplies supplies sup sup- plies they were buying vely In 1945 six acres of land were purchased at the old Bamberger Railroads Railroad's brickyard fur further the r north on Main Street and plans were begun for building a larger service station However the growth of membership in the op Co-op was not rapid so the dream of the new building was not realIzed realIzed realized real real- until 1962 THE NEW station was completed ed and the grand opening was held heldon heldon on Aug 24 1963 Just this spring an automatic car wash has been added to the station which has shown remarkable remarkable remark remark- V able growth at the new location THE MEMBERSHIP has grown to at 25 each for membership membership membership member member- ship in the co This membership membership membership member member- ship fee is paid through the members member's members member's members member's mem mem- bers ber's purchases and each member member member mem mem- ber owns no more than one share To become a member one simply simply sim sim- ply has to slop stop in at the station to sign an application for member member- ship Then as he makes his purchases purchases purchases pur pur- chases they are totaled up until his membership fee is paid THEY HE begins receiving certificates of interest on the earnings of his purchases which are redeemed when the board meets and agrees the op Co-op has funds available above expenses for this purpose The op Co-op has redeemed approximately to Its members during the past few years The board is elected annually and meets monthly to discuss business functions of the Members of the current board are Ira J J.
