W Jack Thompsons Thompson's father left Ohio In the early days to sail around the Horn and reach San Fran Fran- Francisco Francisco Francisco cisco In 1852 After Arter following placer mining for a time timo he married Rhoda Graham of Marysvale Cal and settled settled on the Illinois Ranch near Quincy on the Feather River in California where he was known for raising fine lne horses and thoroughbred cattle John the youngest of three children grew up on the farm I went to the county public schools going later to the School of ot Mines University of ot Nevada was w was s graduated in 1898 Came to Utah Coming to Utah In 1899 after a sum sum- summers summer's summers summer's summers summer's mers mer's work with a B U. B B Fleming who had ha l charge of the Silver King concentrator and the design and construction of the ton sampling mill and aerial tram which are still in operation In 1901 he served first as superintendent then as manager at the Checkmate silver gold mine at Pearl Idaho at that time controlled by E.
