Show population statistics now available statistics tor for the 1930 population of utah classified as urban and rural and by sex color age marital condition illiteracy etc have been issued by the bureau of the census in a bulletin population second series entitled composition and characteristics ot of the population ula tion this is a pamphlet ot of 31 pages 9 by 1112 inches consisting mainly ot of statistical tables the urban population ot of utah in 1930 0 was representing an increase ot of or per cent since 1920 the urban urban population formed 62 52 4 per cent ot of the total as com pared with 48 0 per cent in 1920 urban population as defined by the census bureau Is in general that residing in cities and other incorporated places having 2500 inhabitants or more the remainder being classified as rural the rural population of utah in 1930 was comprising persons living on farms and not living on farms representing as a whole an increase of or 3 3 per cent as compared with the rural population in 1920 the rural farm population taken alone decreased or per cent between 1920 and 1930 while t the la a rural population showed ark an increase of or 32 3 per cent of the entire population ot of utah per cent are white 89 69 0 per cent being native white and 8 86 6 per cent foreign born bom white ot of the native white population about seven tenths are ot of native parentage and about three tenths are ot of foreign or mixed parentage ot of the persons comprising the foreign born white population ot of utah per cent were born in england of the foreign born white population 68 9 per cent have been naturalized the population of utah as a whole increased or 13 0 per cent between 1920 and 1930 the number ot of children under I 1 year ot of age decreased irom from in ill 1920 to in 1930 representing a loss ot of 3 6 per cent while the entire group ot of children under 5 years ot of age decreased 2114 or 34 per cent during the same period the proportion ot of the population 7 to 13 years ot of age attending school increased from 95 5 per cent in 1920 to per cent in 1930 and ot of those 14 and 15 years of 0 age the apropo proportion artion increased from per cent in 1920 to per cent in 1930 the percentage ot of illiteracy in the population 10 years of 0 age and over ove decreased from 19 1 9 to 12 of the gainful workers in the state were males representing 54 2 per cent of the male population and were females representing per cent of the female population including both farm owners and farm laborers agriculture employed persons or about one fourth of all the gainful workers in the state the various manufacturing and mechanical industries employed persons the largest numbers being in the building industry iron and steel and other metal industries and food and allied industries there were persons engaged in transportation in trade including banking and insurance in public bervice not t elsewhere classified in professional service and in domestic and i in the bulletin which has just been issued there are a number ot of features not contained in the 1920 census reports including a presentation of the number ol of gainful workers in each of about 30 industry groups by counties detailed age I 1 data tor for counties ii a classification ot of the population of each town by color j sex lexi sexi age etc and an extensive presentation of statistics tor for the rural farm population and the rural population A copy ot of this bulletin for utah may be obtained by writing to the bureau of 0 the census washington D C |
