Show the arthe american legion convention the annual state convention of the american legion and auxiliary convened in this city yesterday morning under most favorable conditions main street Is very elaborately decorated with national and legion colors and the prize park city high school band headed by its charming drum major miss ada olsen under the directorship ot of leader byron jones were in service early in the morning and thrilled the visitors with stirring music and perfect marching the band Is doing full duty every day members of the local post and auxiliary were here there and elsewhere meeting and greeting the visitors and doing all in their power to make them feel at home when the first session ot of the convention was called to order mayor A J gibbons gave a stirring address of welcome expressing the cites pleasure to entertain the legion and auxiliary and paying a flitting tribute to the heroes who made the supreme sacrifice and to the gold star mothers local commander harry ryan in a pleasing manner also extended fraternal greetings to td the visitors A fitting response was made by commander olsen ot of parowan carowan Pa rowan greetings were then read to the assembly from ralph T oneil national commander and from jim barton national adjutant extending sincere wishes tor for a successful meet and regrets for not being able to be present appreciation was also expressed to every legionnaire of utah for the wonderful membership achievement during this year interesting addresses were then delivered by congressmen don B colton and fredrick C loofburrow Loot burrow during the afternoon alvernoon alter noon the legionnaires who so desired were taken through the silver king coalition and park utah mines and mills and at night a boxing and wrestling exhibition was put on which attracted a fairly good attendance the auxiliary held rousing meetings at tho the high school auditorium where a spirited address was delivered by department part ment president mrs geo F Bal bailiff liff of provo president mrs W J bardsley and mrs A J gibbons of park city extended the cites greetings to the visitors in a most pleasing manner response was made by department vice president mrs rex bex tripp ot of bingham canyon after reading of reports etc adjournment was taken to the home of mrs E J beggs where a gold star mothers tea was served during which more than women heard a tribute to mother by mrs J B boyle a gold star mother of provo mrs saxton responded musical i numbers were furnished by miss betty sheen miss katherine clark claris miss janice dark clark and the celeste stringed trio of salt lake mrs rose smith mrs maude peterson and mrs mary peterson park city gold star mothers were honored guests members of the park city unit
