Show GEOLOGY ALTA WE ORE ZONE significance of deposition suet just be beginning annin g to be as it takes makes tor for big ore Deposit fin area where mining has been carried on for sixty alty years although the ore deposits of the alta ore zone have been productive for more than 60 years it Is only wit within the last six years that the importance ot of the thrust contact has become recognized notwithstanding that at least one ore body was mined in this thrust contact more than fourteen lourte cn years ago in the old columbus consolidated now the wasatch V a s mines but it was waa not net until t the h e strike ot of the rich ore made in the thrust contact in the cardiff mine and more recently in the columbus rexall and alta merger mines that world fame men and geologists realized that the thrust contact is probably the most significant geological factor in the deposition or of high grade ore bodies in ila the alta ore zone exploration along the thrust contact where intersected by the ore bearing fissure at an angle ot of 60 to 70 degrees becomes more significant when it Is known that from the time of the first discovery in the alta ore zoria zone in which are included big cottonwood little cottonwood and american fork mining districts down to the present dato date the aggregate production of silver lead gold and copper Is given at considerably more than han furthermore during the six years last past the greater greater part of the tha production of the alta ore zone has las been derived from the thrust con tact ore shoots it was not until the disclosures made in a the old columbus consolidated now the ho wasatch mines that the thrust con tact was recognized a drift was run in the he blaine fissure and at the intersection of the branne fidure and the thrust contact a large and profitable ore discovery was made the brains fissure intersected the thrust contact at an angle of 70 degrees and within the last forty foay days what appears to be a very important ore disclosure was made in the deep dram drain and transportation tunnel juanel of the wasatch mines company at a point about feet vertically bel below 0 where the ore was first discovered in t the he upper workings it Is believed that the tha recent ore disclosures in this deep drain and transportation atlon tunnel will prove to be the he intersection of the braine asure and the thrust contact tha ilie cardiff mining company intersected with its tunnel the thrust contact and in drifting along this thrust contact encountered an enormous shoot of high grade silver lead ore at a point where the reed benson fissure assure intersected this thrust contact at an angle of 70 degrees after considerable exploration at successively howo levels the thrust contact at its intersection with the fissure proved the ore body continuous it now has this ore shoot proven to the lowest level in its mine which Is the tee 1200 level and it Is stated the silver content of this enormous ore shoot Is even greater on this 1200 foot level than on any of the levels above therefore the importance of the thrust contact and the cardle cardie mine as a high grade producer becomes firmly established the comprehension of the extent and richness of the jr inthe the cardiff mine has assisted mate materially bially in a realization of the importance of exil ex morans this thrust contact in other properties in the alta ore zone to the south of the cardiff it would bo be hard to find a more per example of clean cut than that found at the intersection of the north 70 degrees east cast fissures assures and he thrust contact in the cardiff mine mines columbus rexall and alo 0 merger mines the solutions confined in tho the limestone by the impermeable hanging wall that the tion Is as thorough and well defined s if it has been accomplished by design n a chemical laboratory instead of in natures vast crucible the question naturally arises as to he intense along this contact at the intersection of the 60 to 70 degrees cast fissures the ause as explained by world renowned Is that in past geologic ages when chen great disturbances of the earths crust were taking place the alta ore zone was the scene ot of great dis disturbances tUr bances and pressure by folding an underlying quartzite was broken off and thrust over the limestone in the alta ore zo zone n e tho the tremendous pressure a and nd intense grinding to which the limestone was subjected resulted in shattering the sedimentary formation to a considerable degree thus a medium highly susceptible to was formed so that during a later period the mineralizing mineral izing solutions which ascended the assures fl ss ures dammed in by the impervious hanging wall of quartzite readily and thoroughly replaced the soluble limestone toot foot wall just as important as this primary period ol of was the secondary when the rich mineral outcrops were carried down and deposited with the already considerable lying along the foot loot wall ot of the thrust contact tuo THO more alore bunes profiting by the experience of 0 the cardiff and wasatch wasat ch mines the columbus rexall the alta merger ermines mines cc commenced ameno exploring certain fissures in their respective spec tive properties which intersected the thrust contact at angle ot 60 to 70 degrees the columbus rexall has developed an ore shoot for more than feet on the dip of this thrust contact in its property and the lowest level la Is s showing 7 the highest grade silver that has ha s ye yet t been developed in the property in ia the alta merger mines at an Intersect intersection i 0 0 of the thrust contact slid and the wedge e fl fissure s an enormous shoot of if high grade clean sulphide ore was encountered and continued ott on pago seven park city consolidated making good progress continued from page six more recently the downward extension ot of the rich nl rustler istler ore body was encountered at a point 2000 feet in from portal ot of its quincy tunnel and at a vertical depth ot of 1200 feet below the surface i this ore body Is making at the intersect 1 aton of the rich rustler fissure e and the thrust contact sampling of this ore to flate date shows a an n average ol of 35 ounces silver 16 per cent lead and 2 00 in gold to the ton and gives this company on this ore shoot about teet feet ot of backs on the dip of the thrust contact up to the lowest of the old rustler workings and Is undoubtedly the most important ore disclosure which has been made in the alta ore zone for some time and Is intensively interesting to mining companies to the south seuth of the alta merger mines as this thrust contact traverses the alta merger mines property tor for more than two miles and Is intersected by eleven ore bearing in the property of the alta merger mines company this thrust contact extends south of the alta merger mines property into the I 1 louise atad abd Is also intersected by severi I 1 al strong fissures in the
