Show DEATH OF FRANK S FOX pioneer of park city and the coast coming west in 52 old friend of mrs E E F holmes buried here died at his home in salt lake city last sunday june P F S vox fox ago age ai 84 years for many years sir air fox with his hie estimable wife made their home in park city where they were well known and beloved by scores of friends deceased had been practically in an invalid for three years past on the of last month he was stricken with paralysis since which time lie he gradually failed till theand came as ab above ove stated deem deceased sed was a man of generous im pluses and never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneer the stranger even though a beggar gar never failed to find food and shelter if lie sought it at his hands hand and wa was s always among the first to aid in sickness or distress in his death another name is stricken from ti tin ever lessening roll of our old settlers and a solitary woman in the sunset of life and a lonely homeard ho meare left to attest how sadly he will be missed his life work was done and well done and may the knowledge of this fact brin bring comfort and consolation to the bereaved widow mr F S fox was born bom in exeter devonshire county england november 1828 ile he was only six months old when he came to the united states with his parents who located in baltimore maryland ile he spent his earlier years in that city then theil moved to cincinnati but left there in april 1852 and crossed the plains in an ox team li aring the gold fever he arrived at spring garden r ranch anch plumas county california Cali fomia in August 1852 left the train there and went to nelson creek to io engage in in min mining it was surface e digi digging ing one day with a pen knife ill he took one hundred dollars in same place in company with his mother opened a hotel called thompson hotel in 1858 bought out J W thompson the fai father ller of our townsman councilman J IV thompson in merchandising izing and conducted tile the business for a number of years all plumas county knew and loved auntie fox decease ds mother who was E generous en crous to a fault and gave i 1 hearty welcome to all he cams came to park City Utah in ala May 1881 to work for his old friends friend K R C chambers at that time superintendent of the ontario mining company ile he worked for mr chambers seventeen years but left his employ in 1901 to spend the winter in baltimore maryland returning retura ing to park city in april 1902 since then resided in salt lake city leading a retired quiet life the past three years lie had been a great sufferer r with a complication of diseases mostly from general debility induced from advanced age at tile the time of his death he was not a member of any order but was initiated in 1851 in franklin lodge no 4 1 I 0 0 F cincinnati ohio ohi and retained his membership in different ent lodges many years he wf a member of park city lodge no 7 during his residence here in 1866 he was married to ali miss sadora isadora feelemyer daug daughter liter of a prominent merchant baltimore county maryland after ti traveling avelD for I a month came by steamer via panama to california and settled in taylors tayloe s ville plumas county california where mr fox was engaged in ill the mercantile business tile the tie of friendship has always been very veil warm with mr fox with his kilimas county i friends fiends blavin having L nn ex mayor J S bransford of salt lake lahe and fal family mrs airs E F holmes and also superintendent erin G D blood of th the e continued on page two DEATH OF FRANK S FOX continued from page 1 silver kino king k mining alining company since they were children and could not refrain from calling them by their childhood names the remains were brought to park city tuesday to be entered alongside his mot mother her who died in oar city many years ago they were by his widow mr and mrs L E hubbard mrs emery mrs john thompson mrs george ross mrs D A sullivan and mr C E street services se were e held at tile the 21 E church and wern were largely attended the members of the local cli chapter apter order L eastern astern star and daughters of rebekah lir of 0 which organizations organization ss urs airs fox is an honored member attending in a body the floral tributes were vere numerous and beau ticul rev kev latham ingham pio ached the funeral sen sermon lion which was logical in thought and consoling in expression to vie the bereaved wife and intimate friends i music was rendered by the choir chas T singing two appropriate solos in his usual feeling manner old friends and admirers acted as pall bearers and were barnev riley dr E P lecompte R T kimball 0 E aj street geo D blood and S L interment was in glenwood cemetery |
