pf the company W B alexander of tonopah To was also designated as assistant to general manager mark B karr who by tho way is a brother of kenneth C ken the affable irav oung passenger agent of the salt lake route last november and december orders were placed for new mine equipment including a sixty foot steel gal lows frame a double drum double cylinder hoisting engine a twelve drill air compressor a horse electric motor and all the other paraphernalia that goes to make a first class mining plant all of this machinery with the exception of the hoisting engine ha been installed and owing to delay in delivery ahat was not landed at camp until a few days ago the mine has produced enough ore to meet all these expenses including the milling plant that is now being ordered and for the installation of which work has already commenced at the mine during the year tons of ore was shipped and feet of development work was done in the mine which now boasts total openings of feet drifts and cross cuts run during the year amounted to feet while feet of dinzes and made for development and air connections were run the remainder of the total amount of work done being represented in slopes etc the mcdonald vein was drifted on westerly on the third fourth and fifth levels adding feet of outly unexplored territory in the mcdonald vein between the old workings of he mine and the midway lines drifts were un easterly in the mcdonald and south cans opening up feet of untouched territory between the old workings and the north star in this new territory it is how possible to measure up tons of milling ore alone that will average 27 a ton this estimate does not include any 0 the ground between the new drifts that have been run and not connected UP between levels but which is certainly all ore but milling ore Is not all that lias been developed in the mine by any means in what is known as tho northwest splice of the lc Donald vein ore hay acen opened ui on the third level near the midway line for a length 0 feet through a this ore has been followed down to the fourth level while a drift on the sixth level has recently encountered the same body of ore until connections and been made with tho little work could be done in the ore on the sixth level but it has been proven up now for feet on its strike and at the narrowest narro place it Is eight feet thick average samples for the last fafty feet and with no walls exposed in the end of the drift shows 50 a ton in values the work of the last forty days in this portion of the mine alone is estimated to have added 0 o the mines ore NEW STRIKE IS MADE salt lake 12 H S VV bolley general manager or the abines development which owns the sun ped o and properties proper in the black horbe district came up from osceola yesterday he reports that a new strike has just been made on the companas comp anys leslie T property about feet southeasterly of the workings on tho ann pedro from tho h sunk in the vein a few feet from the surface went over to tho top in gold and ir woolley says the vein nas tho appearance of developing into something big he bays that tho recent mill run on j tons of san pedro ore yielded ap proximately to the ton most of which was collected on the plates the balance bayis saved in about two ions of concentrates which are worth just about 1000 a ton tho ore as it went into the mill showed a value oe ap proximately a ton thus allowing a logs of 30 a ton in the milling mr woolley explained that it was not expected that a close saving could bo made as no such ore had ever before been treated in tho plant and it was not known just ow d where the values could b saved another run would show bettor results in his opinion NEW BONANZA FOR ALTA CAMP city rocks property has opened up immense bodies of rich ore salt lake sept 12 it hag taken some time to find just what Is doing at tho city rocks companas comp anys property at park city and while the chief of noels of tho corporation arc now in th city after a several days trip to alio property and a look over the camp generally modesty has kept them from saying anything president W S cleaves secretary and treasurer james edwards john adwards and others including W J lawrence in the party and it is to the last nam ed that the herald is indebted for a brief statement touching the physical condition of a property that hns grown into one of the big mines ut the state without a word from those who have been doing the work 1 I dont know whether they will like it or not said mr lawrence yeater day but I 1 want to say that I 1 havo not been surprised as much as I 1 was on this trip tor many a long day 1 sup posed the property was a good proa hect I 1 anid not the slightest idea that it was a mine of any magnitude much loss such a bonanza as it is tho city rocks the deeper of three in tho property is in over 2700 feet tho last 2400 feet of it being in the vein five or six shoots of ore have been opened up by this tunnel one of them tho one that Is being mined at the present time is feet long and contains over feet of backs tip to tho next tunnel above this shoot over ages five feefe thick and the ore from it I 1 am told nets the company from 40 to 30 a ton in the face of this tunnel which is feet below the surface there are twenty three feet of ore exposed now and it looks is though it was getting bigger all the time from this tunnel dinzes have been sunk in ore to a depth of feet and from all that I 1 could see there is practically no limit to the amount of ore that might bo developed in the property nor to the tonnage that i might with transportation facilities be sent to market mr lawrence said he was told at the property that the company was gradually adding to its teaming facilities and that it would not be long till a large tonnage could be moved eight teams are now landing at the sampler aboud fifty tons a day when it would be just as easy to send oufa tons or more if it was possible to get the ore hauled five men on ore now take out more than teams can be secured to haul there is room in the mine now mr lawrence declares for sto pers new boarding and lodging bouses no uses blacksmith carpenter and machine shops are going up at the mine and everything about the premises gives tho impression that the futures Is being looked to for big things the company has been and still Is steadily acquiring new territory and it now looks as if before it got through it would have I 1 an estate as large as that of tho daly judge in the park city district mr lawrence states that the companas comp anys mines are tobe compared only to those 0 the columbus consolidated coin pany and he believes that it will not be long till the mine is recognized as the peer of any high grade proposition in the state he considers the michigan and eastern bunch that gwng it a lucky bet of mortals BRIGHAM CITY BEATS BELLS brigham city sept ll 11 at th brigham ball park today norfolk had headed generally southward toward key west with the purpose of proceeding to havana if developments with the next two days acain to warrant such action at key the will be about eight hours run from havana and while waiting commander halsey will be in close communication with the navy department part ment prepared to carry out immediately any request from the department of state thero is no interest in this move of the des to partiality to ono side or the other in the present coonick in cuba tho ship will be at havana to serve as an asylum in case of need and be nt the disposition of the americans in case the united states it necessary to intervene in cuban affairs under i provisions of the platt amendment forces which will have to be shipped for that purpose would be found in a much better state of preparation than when hostilities began between the and spain the long military occupation of guba by the united states troops afforded an opportunity port unity to army officers to become familiar with the island and probably no portion of the earth is better known to the military authorities of the united states than the island of in addition to the familiarity of the army officers with the geography and general conditions of cuba all of the supply departments are better equipped the critical situation in cuba is absorbing the attention of the administration to the exclusion of all other foreign topics as indicated by the activity of the officials in abo state navy and war departments the president at oyster bay ia keeping in close i touch with every development of the revolutionary movement in cuba and is in constant communication by wire wilh the officials here who indeed are even in receipt of detailed instructions from him as to what they shall do the prime object of the administration at present is to get the details which is no easy task is it dei sired to know the precise strength of the revolutionary movement in cuba and the relative powers of the government and the insurgents there mr morgan the american minister to havana is understood to be hastening from europe where he has been on vacation to the cuban capital and meanwhile mr sleeper the secretary of the american legation a bhavana tH avana is supplying the state department with a dally bulletin containing such facts as he is able to gather there it is realized however that mr sleeper is bound to accept the official rendition 0 the daily collisions between president palmas troops and the itt the held he has no means of se curing the rebels statement ot those same occurrences and in the view of the officials Is good reason to believe that the whole truth Is not disclosed by either side it is the pur irose of the administration to proceed liht gibat deliberation in dealing with the cuban question and it was said on the highest authority that there would be no intervention by the united states unless the rebellion assumed the proportions of a general conflagration it was further stated that there had been no from any of the foreign governments for the united states government to step in and preserve the peace AN ESTIMATE OF ART idealistic moral
