and lights reported recommending the adoption of the ordinance granting geo A snow a franchise for operating a gas plant in ogden with the following amendments first that the work must begin within twelve months from granting of franchise second that fifteen miles of gas mains be laid within twenty four months from granting of franchise and thai five miles be lain within tho next two years third that the gas plant be completed and in operation within thirty months from the date sot the granting of tire franchise fourth that the gas ba manufactured and sold in the city of ogden the committees recommendations were adopted and on motion of councilman paine the ordinance was made to provide for the heating of all city buildings and the lighting of the parks tree of charge the ordinance with these amendments passed its third and final reading sidewalks on Twenty first street i bishop james ad dressed the council in reference to the putting in of sidewalks on twenty first street he stated that on account of the great quantity of wafer that runs down the street during the winter and spring months that the concrete sidewalks it put in would soon become damaged and rendered worthless unless proper curbing was made to protect them the matter was referred to the street committee with instructions to investigate the guttering on that street bill held excessive the special committee to which was referred the claim of F G farrell tor repairing the street roller reported that the bill was excessive and recommended that the mayors veto stand approved on motion the report of the committee was adopted rd opted A communication was received from the mayor stating that the humane society had mada a request for an officer and that he bad appointed R D for the position on motion they also recommended the purchasing of a rock quarry by the city tho building of a plant for crushing and the working of city prisoners on same on motion the communication was ordered filed A petition was received from J H bassatt and others stating that their property in the university addition was in constant danger of alre on account of being surrounded by dry grass which hunters and others were likely to set on alre the petition asked that a mounted officer patrol that district to prevent anyone from setting fire to the grass on motion the petition was ordered filed an ordinance was offered by mr williams fixing the salary of the chief of police at per month after first reading on suspension of tho rules it passed second reading by title on mccon the ordinance was referred to the law committee an ordinance was offered by mr dickson creating a sewer district on fowler avenue between twenty fifth andl twenty sixth streets on motion the matter was referred to the city engineer the committee on public buildings and grounds submitted the following report of expenditures for the past month public buildings and grounds street department i sprinkling engineering
