detectives to flie place where he dropped his booty san francisco aug 10 the mystery of the great bullion robbery at the selby smelling smelting Sm elting works will probably be entirely cleared up before night and the missing gold may all be recovered it is believed that john winters the suspect now in custody has made a full confession and hs declared that the treasure Is lying in the shallow water ot etral ts the confession Is said to have been made in the office of cap stain of detectives seymour after the prisoner had been examined at great length by ex chief of police lees and superintendent sayers of the pinkerton agency the officials then chartered a tug and taking winters with hem went up the oay to the smelling smelting Sm elting works here several detectives were taken on board and the tug proceeded to crockett where it was proposed to spend the night here trouble occurred between the san francisco officers and sheriff veale of contra costa I 1 bunty in which the robbery was comi mated the sheriff demanded the cus tody of the prisoner and this being t refused procured Tro cured a search warrant A truce was arranged however and early this morning the entire party boarded the tug and started tor martinez the county seat winters was handcuffed and guarded with the utmost vigilance sheriff veale stated that be understood that a complete confession had been made and superintendent in voa der ropp said thank god our anxiety Is over we will soon have the gold back no more definite statements have been made tout a gasoline launch haa baen sent to brockett kett and the tug is provided with grappling apparatus which it 13 understood will be put in use today the two bars of gold found on the fleach lay on the rocks jost beyond the end of the railway tunnel farthest from the smelling smelting sm elting works to prevent the tide from washing into the roadway the southern pacific has dumped hundreds of tons of along the beach as a breakwater the
