Show bounly COUN lY commissioners COMMISSIO HERS regular session to attend to routine work members of the board discuss pauper aid and decide to curtail expense arising from this source weber county has it seems become tie refuge or many pauper infirm or sick persons in the country who have but little or no means ot support and ike county commissioners at session of the board resolved to stop or at least discourage to a great extent the numerous applications which are constantly being presented for assistance si stance the usual number of such applicants cants were present this morning and with as small on expense as possible they were disposed ol 01 and the board proceeded to attend to the regular business ot the county commissioner wilson re potted that himself and commissioner skeen had witnessed a test of the furniss fire extinguisher and as it had proven satisfactory a dozen had been ordered tor the court which would be distributed among the several offices the report was adopted county attorney halverson submitted an regarding the remittance of taxes assessed against cattle belonging to J C armstrong and claimed by him to be transient and not subject to taxation in this county the opinion ol 01 the attorney was that the cattle were lawfully taxed and that it was the duty of the treasurer to collect the same the opinion was received and adopted and the treasurer instructed to proceed to collect the came the county clerk was instructed to post a notice on the front door of the session room to the effect that the office hours of chairman stanford tor handling matters in relation to the poor and indigent will hereafter be on monday wednesday and friday of each week between the hours of 2 and 4 p m and that all applications for aid must be made at that time as applications not be considered upon other days or at any other time reports were received regarding the feeling among the residents of the several road districts throughout the county with reference to levying a special road tax the reports showed that while in some districts the proposition was favored the contrary was decidedly the case in a majority of the districts no further action in the matter was taken at this time commissioner skeen reported that i he had employed mr john wilson to make a selection of the fruit trees the county proposed planting at the poor farm the report was adopted and mr wilson instructed to place an ord cr with david M moore for a variety of trees sufficient to plant two and one halt acres into peach trees one and one half acres into apple trees and one acre into plum apricot and cherry trees chairman stanford reported that he had held a meeting with the health officers throughout the county last saturday afternoon at which all the health boards of the county were present the reports from the officers showed that the smallpox contagion n the county was dying out and great hopes were entertained that it would not be long before the various dis would be rid of the disease the report was ordered filed he also reported that he had investigated the matter of filling the vacancies occasioned by the resignation of the two trustees at roy and also the appointment of a road supervisor for that district he recommended the appointment of thomas holland as trustee for the long term and hardy as trustee for the short term on the appointments were made as recommended and david jones was appointed road supervisor county assessor john gabson submitted the name of joseph smith as depauly assessor for huntsville and on notion the appointment was confirmed A communication from the state board of equalization was read advising the commissioners that the board would hold a meeting with the assessors of the various counties to discuss cs matters at salt lake city saturday and desired the attendance ot the assessor from this county the communication was filed and the clerk instructed to notify the assessor to attend the county clerk of rich county called the attention of the board to the tax due ithac county on account of assessment ses on transient herds the communication was referred to the auditor the county attorney reported that some time ago the county treasurer had called his attention to a warrant which bad been held by this county against uintah county tor about five years that he had been advised by the clerk of that county that a meeting of the board of county commissioners of uintah county would be held tomorrow and provisions made to pay tho warrant it possible the report was ordered filed the bonds of about twenty newly appointed road supervisors were approved and the board adjourned |
