Show ART WILL BE HELD THE LAST OF THIS MONTH communicated the art convention to be held in this city the and of december is the first of its kind ever ald in the west and the good people of ogden may well feel proud that their city Is the one chosen miss mint ot philadelphia cornea to us highly recommended by the teachers clergy and all educators in different cities in the west she has established art classes as members of the N L A S L we have letters from mr apperly of logan teacher and member of the board of education at that place mr murrall ll of the school there rev J D of the M E church of pocatello who recommends her highly to the epworth league and all organizations of young and many others miss mint Is a broadminded broad minded philanthropic lady who having no family and interested in BO particular church devotes her time and money to the cause of art education and with the assistance of the women of ogden Is to lead the convention the following letter from her will best explain the object ot the convention we cordially invite everyone to attend it this is a success it will be the stepping stone for the establishment of an art school in ogden the pupils of the high school and of the weber stake and sacred Heart Academy are specially asked to be present mary coulter president of V V W C M A breeden of the W R C logan post C E driver president of kindergarten association sara whalen secretary of U F W C kate S hallard Hll lard chairman of state industrial committee IT F W C to the public the day has passed when to paint a great picture or in fact any picture at all is considered the greatest work tor art today all progressive thinkers and educators realize that art education is the greatest work we are living in the dawn of an ago when to educate is greater than to execute so long as art or drawing the greatest of all studies is held in such indifference and so many retain the false idea that the ability to draw is a special power given to only a few we can do little for this most necessary department of learning we say neccy sary because of its practical usefulness ful ness what have we in the present civilization in which drawings not its first structure truthfully has ald art Is the directing power of the universe it leads all science all progress and all true education what study so broadens the mind strengthens the individuality develops observation and cultivates the love of nature as drawing then why so much indifference and lack of appreciation tor this the greatest and most beautiful education simply because we have been blinded so long by the false idea that there must be a superior gift to enable one to draw well the main object of the national liberal art and social league is to dispel this untruth and teach the beauty and simplicity of the principles ot drawing it will be the aim of this convention fo bring before the people of ogden and all who attend these principles in a practical manner the eight lessons which I 1 will give as my aart of tha convention work consist of the underlying principles of drawing dra wing as I 1 give them in my regular eight lesson course I 1 give them freely and gladly knowing that all who attend will be enabled to realize the simplicity of the principles which when understood der stood will enable anyone to araw we are not here to make masters of art but to leach all who attend to draw we extend a hearty invitation to all who wish to come to this convention for art education sincerely L A MINT I 1 S alio attend the convention will please bring an unlined pencil tablet and pencil L A MINT |
