Show BOYCOTT UNION MEN BUNKER HILL COMPANY ALWAYS REFUSED TO EMPLOY THEM wallace ida june 30 in the impeachment peach ment trial ot the throe county commissioners of shoshone county who are charged with aiding and abetting the riot ot april 29 when the bun ker hill and sullivan mill was blown up bolh sides reeled their cases judge stewart suggested taking up the case against sheriff young immediately on the samo charge and arguing both together as the bame points would be largely involved this was accepted by counsel it was also agreed that the testimony of young yesterday in the case ot commissioners should bo considered his in his own behalf the state submitted telegrams passing between the and the governor in relation to the wardner situation and called frederick burbidge manager of the bunker hill company he told of sheriff youngs visit to his office on april 26 but insisted that young wanted him to settle differences with the union instead of the miners as young testified yesterday witness could not do that as the company would not agree to it he told the sheriff about armed men capturing their tramway and turning men back from coming to the mine young agreed to see that the men got to the mine on cross examination burbidge said the company owned twelve or fifteen rifles relics of 1892 but employed no armed men except three watchmen at the mill he admitted that the company did not pay the union scale of wages but increased the scale at the time of the strike continuing he said wo did not raise wages to meet the demand of the union nor to prevent the strike when the union men walked out we considered they had quit we have always discharged union men when we found out we had them in our employ until the men struck and announced themselves members of the union we did not know there were any union men in the mine |
