| Show A taxpayer s complaint jl EDITOR ae the assessed valuation of property both real and personal seems to be the great focal question ot the day and it is undoubtedly a very knotty question for the board of equalization to solve so as to have all property assessed at a fair cach value and get sufficient taxes county and city expenses I 1 eee in TIIE yesterday mr seaman quoted the law to the effect that property must bo assessed at alln full value thia la all richt eo far but in vol I 1 chapter X 2010 sec 3 bays property other than money shall be assessed at a fair cash valuation compiled laws of utah of 1888 now with your kind permission I 1 wish to give one sample out of many of the valuation as compared with a fair cash valuation ae required by law I 1 presented a case to the board of equalization for a nonresident non resident owner of certain real estate in which 1 property baa the last two years offered for sale for less than one half of the assessed valuation this matter I 1 presented to the board in 1890 but no relief was granted I 1 have also presented it to this board bu it appears fro a the doings of the board where relief was either granted or re fused that this case was not considered worthy of their attention now this does not appear to me to be fair treatment of the case I 1 presented plainly stated i writing tine when property is offered ale in the open market for one half 0 the assessed valuation and cannot within a reasonable tim find purchaser there must be something decidedly bronc with valuation and it can certainly not be a fair cash valuation ae required by law A fair hearing and fair treatment bv publio officers 19 all I 1 ask and this I 1 think I 1 am entitled to very respectfully JAMES |
