J J Bracken Lee Gives Views on T Taxation In order that your industry might know how I stand in regards regards re re- gards to problems which directly direct direct- I l ly or 01 indirectly concern you ou I Iset Iset Iset set forth what would be I my stand as a Un United te States Sen ator I AM 1 OPPOSED to any my fur fur- ther withdrawal of public lands from the t field of leasing and exploration and would favor re re- sing Ic-sing c sing more government land to be leased and explored I feel leel that I would have to support the creation of of ofa a Canyon Lands National Park but certainly would hold out for lor the multiple use provisions to protect the Investments made by private r industry for lor oil and mining pur pur- poses I feel Ceel that taxes levied on fuel Cuel used by the motoring industry in industry in should be limited to road purposes although I am under the impression that these taxes are too high at the present time and have a tendency for lor that reason to create a considerable considerable consid consid- erable crable amount of waste in the construction of highways I would certainly favor lavor lowering this tax at least to some de gree grec My stand on governmental tal on production and marketing in any of our industries industries indus indus- tries should be well known by now I shall never vote to in in- any of these controls on any industry but shall do everything e in my power to do away with many of the controls now in effect I FAVOR the continuation of the Depletion DepIction Allowance now allowed the oil industry and feel it would be tragic and detrimental detrimental detri detri- mental to the future of ot our country to reduce U this s allow allow- ance In fact I favor increasing increase ing the allowance and allowing all other oUter industries the same privilege In short it is m my opinion that those who govern in Washington must begin to cut down on the waste the giveaway giveaway give give- away the creation of political jobs and the growth of governmental govern mental bureaus and be prepared to live within the governments government's income and a at t the same time lime grant relief to those overburdened overburden overburden- ed taxpayers I am primarily in interested interested in in- in cutting the costs of government and allowing the people to spend more of their own money and unless these I evils of government are corrected correct correct- ed it will soon be too late and we will find lind that the free enterprise enterprise enterprise enter enter- prise system is a thing of the Ute past It is my that those of us who believe in free enterprise enterprise enter enter- prise cannot any longer tolerate a government that has for lor its Us purpose the elimination ion of the free enterprise s system stem I SUBMIT to you my record in public office as an indication indica tion lion of what I will continue todo to todo todo do as a United States Senator I solicit your support on the strength of or that record Sincerely yours J.
