Hansen has been sick for over a week, but is now recovering. recov-ering. The Ephraim City Council have ordered a new safe through Mr. J. P. Meilstrup. It arrived yesterday. One of the most pleasant sociables ever held in Ephraim, was held at the residence of Miss Maria Peterson's Peter-son's last Tuesday night. The population of Utah is given at 306,498. There was a horse race in the Ephraim west lane on Tuesday, for ti$. a side, between John Skow's horse, of Ephraim, and a stranger. The stranger's horse got away with the yoL ' Mr. J. C. Peterson,' of Peterson & Hanson, one of Ephraim's rust-liug rust-liug Merchants arrived from Chicago on Tuesday last. Mr. Peterson has been to be great Western Metropolis Metrop-olis on business.. Mr. Ernest Yarcht, formerly of Ephraim, but now of Salt Lake, is hereon a visit. This is the first' time he has been to his native town j for 8 years. He is well pleased with ' the improvements made. j Supt. h. s. Kerr of the s. P. V. went to S,ilt Lake yesterday to get a locomotive and a number of cars from the U. P. for his road. He says they will have several passen-; ger coaches for Conference. j i Ueorge Bench, of Manti, has the contract to finish the ditch preparatory prepar-atory to the laying of the pipe fori the water works for Manti City, j The contract specifies that the j work shall be completed in 30 days. We learn from Mr. Josh. Fielding, Field-ing, of Manti, that David Candland was thrown front his car near the Chester Depot, on Monday last.and badly shaken up.
