The case of the U. s. vs. Mahonri Bishop, for adultery, was called. The defendant pleaded not guilty. Mr. Bishop was also arraigned on a charge of unlawful cohabitation and pleaded guilty, sentence set for sept. 19. John Powell was arraigned on the charge of adultery and pleaded not guilty. Wm. h. Ashby came into court and pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful cohabitation, and was ready for trial. A jury was enipan-neled enipan-neled and the indictment read. charlotte Ashby was the first witness. Said her name was "Charlotte Badger Ashby, I suppose." sup-pose." Mr. Evans Are you married? Mrs. A Don't consider that I am. Was married in 1875 to Mr. Ashby at the endowment house in salt Lake. Never had any children. Mr. Ashby lives at his home in Hol-deu, Hol-deu, Millard county. He had another anoth-er wife, Nancy Maria, she was the first wife. All live in Holden. Lived with Mr Ashby from 1875 t0 18S1. We thenseperated and lived in different houses. Went to salt Lake in the winter of 18S2. Lived a year there and went back to Hold-en Hold-en in 1889. Lived there ever since. Nancy has been living there also.' Have lived apart from Mr. Ashby and supported " myself. ' Visited Nancy's house once. .Went there to ask assistance from Mr. Ashby. Did not get it. He did not have it to give me. It was in the year 1892. Never visited there privately. Have taken no meals there. I never went out with Mr. Ashby to church or 'publicly. We ceased living together togeth-er at my request, because we could not live in peace-not on account of the law. He seemed willing to quit, nave lived apart seven years. j v.
