Run down by a cowardly autoist, who failed to stop , and lend assistance, despite the fact that his victim lay prone In tho street, I Roger Goodrich, aged 10 years, son of William Goodrich, a dairyman living ! at 2070 Major avenue, Is lying at his , home with a fractured 6kull and with I little prospect of recovery. Sheriff : Sharp and a force of deputies spent several hours last night searching for the automobile and driver, but were i unsuccessful In their quest. It Is j feared young Goodrich cannot survive the night. J The accident occurred on State street, Just below Twelfth South, at abo:it 7:20 o'clock Thursday night. Young Goodrich wan hanging on behind be-hind one of his father's dairy delivery wagons. He dropped off behind anil i started to run acres b the street, when the automobile, going south on State I street, rushed upon him at a terrific speed. Before tho boy could dodge he had been struck by the heavy car nnd rendered unconscious. He was picked up and carried to his home, and Dr. A. A. B!rd of Murray was summoned-The summoned-The physician found that the lad's skull had been fractured, and at midnight mid-night htld out little hope for his recovery re-covery It was quite dark at the time of the accident, and the young man driving i the dairy wagon could not sec tho number of the ear, nor could he give j a goo! description of It other than i that tho top was down. Tho sheriff's office was notified and an attempt was made to find the driver of the car, who, whentho lad was struck, turned on power and drove away at a mad pace. A short time after the accident a car was observed to go north on State street at a high rate or speed. Only I one of the front lamps was lighted, j and it is believed the other was I broken by the collision with Goodrich I |
