Show NEW MONEY ORDERS. Money orders, payable at any Postoffice in the United States, are being issued by the Ogden postoffice, under late instructions from the Postoffice department in Washington. This is one of the things for which a persistent demand has been made for years, but which i3 said to have met with opposition from the express companies and even from some of the larger banks. Money orders of that kind will partake of the properties of bank notes and tend to incroase the efficiency of part of tho money circulation cir-culation of the United States, thu3 being equivalent to an addition to the money volume of tho country. This would be true in a greater measure were the money orders to be made transferable, but, we understand, the restriction still holds good that an order must be paid to the party in whose favor it is drawn and identification is a requisite, serving as a safeguard against the money order being cashed by other than the right party. |
