Violent declines marked the opening dealings in stocks today and some heavy blocks of the prominent speculative Issues changed chang-ed hands, opening sales of IT. S. Steel being 10.000 shares. Declines in practically prac-tically all of tbe active Issues reached as much as I to 1 1-2 and in Union Pacific, Rock Island. Wabash pfd., and American Sugar the loss was 2 points. Persistent selling kept tbe market weak and unsettled and the few rallies that occurred seemed to result mostly from Puylng by the shorts. Atlantic coast line lost 4 1-2, Rock Island pfd . 3 1-2. Reading and Kansas Kan-sas & Texas 3, Chesapeake & Ohio, Iulflville and .Nashville and Amerl-j can Car 2 1-2. Rock Island 2 3-8, and the rest of the list from 1 to 2 points. Duying orjders stopped the brcRk later and there was a general rally from half to a point. The further outpouring of stocks was shown to be due to dissatisfaction, dissatisfac-tion, with the general outlook banking, bank-ing, political, agricultural and com- merclal. The movement towards re-I re-I cuvery before noon was accompanied I by a break In the price of wheat and I corn nnd by the discussion of Gold Imports. Im-ports. The demand from short6 to cover also made an effective influence influ-ence in the rally. Tbe mid-day prices showed much of the earlier declines, i recovered and net gains ruling In some .of the most active speculative , stocks'. S Paul rose a point. ; y Etonjis wore weak.
