No Reference to Tariff Bill. The colonel made no reference to tho Payne-AIJrich bill, confining his remarks to the endorsement of the tariff plank of the Republican stutc platform and of the tariff boaid scheme. He said he was advocating the same political plens In his speech of tonight that he had advocated in all of his speeches during tho summer from the Rocky Mountains to the eastern seaboard. Enthusiastic Reception. Colonel Roosevelt's reception in Boston Bos-ton was enthusiastic. When Colonel Roosevelt arrived at the arena where the rally waa held, he found a great crowd unable to gain admittance, which blocked the street outside. s Colonel Roosevelt mounted the platform plat-form he received one of the most enthusiastic en-thusiastic greetings which has been given him on his travels during the last few months. Talks for Draper. Former Governor J"hn L. Bates, Governor Draper and Senator Lodge made speeches and then the colonel was introduced. "The opKnont of Governor Draper hafl said that the tariff Is an issue In this campaign," he paid. "All I ask Is that the voters compare the attitude, atti-tude, of the two parties In regard to the tariff On the Republican side there is no difference as to the principle prin-ciple to be observed. In every state the Republican are a unit In adher enco to the principle .expressed In the Republican platform that there shall be an equalization of the cost of production pro-duction here and abroad The difference differ-ence has been merely as to the way af achieving the common purpose, and more and more we are coming Into complete harmony as to the method to be adopted Our opponents have no such harmony." Commends Tariff Plank. The colonel read and commended the tariff plank In the Massachusetts Republican platform which endorse tho plan for n tariff board. He sa'd President Taft, by working for the tariff board and for satisfactory tariff relations with foreign countries had pointed out the way which the party was to follow. |
