Show THE COLONEL CANNOT WRITE. The following letter has been received in answer to our condol- ence: "Oyster Bay, Nov. 14. As secretary, I beg to acknowledge your words of sympathy. The doctors have refused to allow the Colonel to see any one or to do any corresponding, in fact, the Colonel is in a dazed state of mind and at times imagines he is being pursued by man-eating lions of the veldt. This delusion has been marked since the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 8. In his raving3, his one desire is to live long enough to escape from the jungles and return to his native na-tive land, there to live the unruffled life of a country gentleman, free from the strenuous and the unnerving." The secretary neglected to state what caused the Colonel to suffer suf-fer this aberration, but as the mental disturbance commenced on the , night of November 8, the election returns may have had some influence in-fluence on the patient's health. |
