Show "THE LOTTERY MAN" DcRoret Ncts. All?. 16: Tho new senson uu.ler the new regime oppned at the Colonial this week While U vas a sort of preliminary to tho mala event, It gave a pleasant foretaste of what the patrons of the house may expect under the new order of thing. The new scale of prices, $1 50, waa In ogue for tho first time, and while all tne seats were not filled, the audiences audi-ences thus fur have been above the overage, and with the charmnlc impression im-pression the first offering scored, there is llttlo doubt that the two remaining re-maining performances, this afternoon fcnd evening, will build up a hand somo total. The attraction Is . "The Lottery Man." a comedy by Mrs. Young, who wrote "Brown of Harvard." and It id picsented In Salt Lake by a stronp Now York compapy, with William Kosoll In the part created by Cyril Scott, and Vlvla Ogdn In the role written for Helen Lowell, the well remembered Mis' Hazy of "Mrs. Wlpgs of the Cabbage Patch." The part of Lizzie In the present pliy Is an exact copy of Hazy, and If Miss Lowell got any more out of It than Miss ORdon did last night, she must have satisfied the authoress as thoroughly thor-oughly as she did the audience. While the part verges on tho grotesque at tfrncs, It is Impossible not to laugh at the caricature. Mr. Rosell is a breezy,-bright breezy,-bright and taking cornelian, and ho brought all the possibilities out of Hie part of the young man who puts Mrueelf up as a prize In a lottery. The absurdities of the piece, whoso plot Is almost that of a comic opera, were well brought out by the supporting support-ing company, the principal members of whom are Lucia Moore, who played the "chummy" mother with excellent sweetness and taste; Miss Sadie Hai-ris. Hai-ris. who made an altogether charming charm-ing heroine, and Miss Florence Rob-cjtson, Rob-cjtson, who pictured the worldly mother of tho day with faithfulness. The pleco was excellently staged and gowned, jnd while there were no great outbursts of enthusiasm, the au-dlrnce au-dlrnce kept up a constant rlpplo of n-errlment throughout the evening. "The lottery Man" will be seen at the new Ogdon theater tonight. - |
