Show THOMAS H. ATKINS CALLED BY DEATH Salt Lake, Aug. 17 Thomas Hewitt Atkins, a prominent business man of this city, who was connected j with Auerbach Brothers since 18S3, 1 died at his home. 335 West Third 'North street, Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock, after an Illness of about two months. Mr. Atkins was born In Sparta, Canada, on February 10, 1849, and was Gl years old at hla death. In 1873 Mr. Atkins removed from hla native town to Toledo, O., where he entered tbo employ of Eaton, Lyon & Co., one of the largest dry goods houses in that city. He remained there for ten years, and thon removed to Salt Lake City. Within two weeks after big arrival in this city he was employed In the 1 Auorbach store as a clerk. Ho was j very efficient in his work and soon gained the confidence of his employ- . era and was promote rapidly. He was manager of the store, for several years, and later was appointed gen- ; oral credit man, which responsible po- ; sitlon ho held at the time of his death. About two months ago Mr. Atkins ! was taken ill and suffered a general breakdown. He had been gradually slnk.ng, and for the past three weeks was conDned to his bed. , The deceased left a widow, Mrs. T.'l H. Atkins, three daughters and on son to mourn hla loss. Th daughters are: Mrs. F. P. Keate and rs. Carrie Atkins Higglns of Salt Lake and Mrs. H. J. Wantz of Toledo, O. A sou, Jack Atklna, Is now employed at tho Auerbach Btore. Arrangements for tho funeral have not been perfected and will be announced later. |
