Show Her Erought Business in Part of New York City to Standstill New York, June 14. Another Aeronaut Aero-naut loomed up today, this time In a dirigible balloon. Fred Owens, a 20-vear-old lesldent of Belleville, N. J., brought business to a virtual standstill stand-still In lower Manhattan by suddenly appearing in his airship flying across the Hudson river and then attempting attempt-ing to laud his craft In City Hall park. Owens fouud that landing bad its elements of hazard as well as those of flying. His dirigible became un-nianagable un-nianagable In the air current between the city hall and the county court house and the frame work of the gas bag bumpod a chimney on the county court house, bending the frame and putting the propeller out of business. Owens, threw out a rope and tried to , land, but the gaa bag shot upward. The dangling rope eluded a crowd of onlookers. Tho aeronaut and his un-manavable un-manavable dirigible floating away in the direction of Brooklyn. Owens made a test trip of ten mlleB with his ship this morning from Belleville, N. J., to Passaic, and return. re-turn. Owens' helpless dirigible, gradually rising, floated ucross the East rlvor and when nearly over the city hall. In Brooklyn, apparently reached a layer of still air. He hovered for some time directly over the Brooklyn ! business section and then began a 9low drift toward the Long Island Interior.
