Mrs. Alma Al-ma Proctor Vaughn was arrested on a warrant charging her with tho rour- I dcr of her husband, Prof. John Vaughn, this morning, She, was released re-leased on $25,000 bond. Mrs. Vaughn went to the office of Sheriff Williams and surrendered at 8:40 o'clock. During a 20-mlnutc wait, while her attorneys were con- I suited, she sat In the sheriff's office, and at 9 o'clock she went Into tho circuit court room. Judgo Shelton told her sho was charged with first degree murder. She replied with a nod of her head. She was calm until sho was told to stand ; un and swear she would appear In court when summoned. j Then she broke down and wept and, after taking tho oath, she sank into her chair. Jamee S. Scott, hor uncle; J. M. Proctor Jr.. her brother, and E. K. Yowell of Monroe City, qualified as bondsmen, swearing their aggregate wealth was In excess of ?1 50.0(10. Attorney William T. Ragland asked tho court to set the hearing, but Judge Shelton said it could not be before tho May term. The report of the grand Jury was not made public this morning. The warrant "was issued soon after the grand Jury reported late yesterday afternoon, af-ternoon, Prosecuting Attorney Relger announced an-nounced In court that he had issued a warrant for the rearrest of Dr. R, J. Hull of Monroe City. As Dr. Hull is out on bail at Liberty on a bond of $7,500, Sheriff Williams will not go to Monroe City to serve it Immediately. Mrs. Vaughn arrived here last nlRht from Monroe City at the request of her attorneys. They had anticipated a warrant would be served on her today. to-day. She did not want hr aged pas-rents pas-rents to see the warrant served. The tinkling strains of Mcndelsson's Wedding March, played by Mrs. Vaughn after her husband's death, led to the grand Jury Investigation of tho death of Prof. Vaughn. Although Prof; Vaughn, who was Instructor of American History In tho Stale Normal school here, died In con-yulslonn con-yulslonn October 14. no one suspected aff',the time that his death was .unnatural .un-natural except one or two persons, who thought he might have taken poison accidentally. Mrs. Vaughn's music was heard ten days after Yaughn'6 death by Mrs. J. D. Kirk, whoso guest she was after the funeral. Mrs. Kirk's suspicions were aroused, and she confided In her husband, who is president of the State Normal. She told him other things she had observed which seemed unusual un-usual in the behavior of a widow. An Investigation of the death was instigated by President Kirk and Vaughn's brothers as a result. -Prof.- Vaughn was apparently in tho best of health when he arrived home from church on the night of his death.
