Show REPORT ON OGDEN'S WATER The waterworks report was hurried to the city council last night lor reu-sons reu-sons not made plain. Tno report shows -that there are now forty-one miles of water maina la tho city, four miles of which were laid during the time covered by municipal mu-nicipal ownership; that 241 permits were Issued during tho year of cou-uectii'iis; cou-uectii'iis; that there are now 174 miters mi-ters In uso. E6 of which were installed during the past year; that the pressure pres-sure Is from SO to 85 pounds per tquare Inch, with a reserve pressuro of from 120 to 150 pounds to tho square Inch, to be used whenever necessary; nec-essary; that the capacity of the present pres-ent rebcrvolr Is G,5mii,000 gallons, and with the completion of the new reservoir reser-voir 13.000.0u0 gallons' capacity will be added; that by furnishing free water wa-ter for sprinkling and Uushing 43 miles of city streets, free water for the Carnegie library, police station and other departments of the city, and allowing the free use of water for streets, parks In the residential ior-tlons ior-tlons of the city, the waterworks department de-partment loses $15,000 each year. Financial Statement. The financial condition of tho waterworks wa-terworks department was also submitted sub-mitted In detail, and shows the following: fol-lowing: Receipts. $641,173 49. Cash on hand December -30. $7,-903 $7,-903 50. Water Rates. The report commented on the matter mat-ter of water rates. It was explained ll at w hen tho city acquired the property prop-erty tho matter of reducing the rates was discussed, but it was finally decided de-cided that the rates should reniala the same until certain repairs aud Ini piovcments on the system had becu made. The committee recommended that this plan be followed. Recommendations Recom-mendations for additional extensions and improvements on the system were also made by the committee. The members of the committee highly complimented Manager C. II. Kucher for the recommendations and suggestions which he had offered the committee and the efficient service he had given the department, which tho report says was made possible by his eighteen yearn experience with the waterworks system. After the re-port had been unanimously unani-mously adopted Councilman Powers addressed the council. Ife declared that the purchase of the waterworks system had been one of the wisest Investments cer made by the city. That the value of the property has Increased tdnce the city acquired own-Mhhlp, own-Mhhlp, and ll Is now valued at over $1,000,000 Councilman Powers paid a high tribute to the members of the waterworks committee for the e f 11-cienc 11-cienc of their services In the man ugement of the system. |
