Show THEY FAVOR THE FOREST SERVICE C. E. Dunston has returned from an interesting trip to the little town of Vernon, Tooele county, wher9 he spent a few days Investigating matters relating re-lating to tho forest service. Mr. Dunston Is connected with the silviculture silvi-culture department la Ogdeu and he was sent lu Vernon to make an Inspection. In-spection. Vernon is the headquarters of ft branch of the Wasatch national forest' and It was recently reported by Supervisor Super-visor Reynolds of the Wasatch forest for-est that the lands connected with the branch forest are not timber lands, in the strict sense of the word, and that it would be well to ellmlnnt these lands from the forest service coutrol. The formers at Vernon, says Mr. Dunston, object to the proposed elimination elim-ination and they have petitioned the government to keep up the forest regulation. reg-ulation. They claim that the forest In questlou lies close to the trail fol lowed by sheep from winter to the summer ranges, and that without tho cnlorcement of the forest service regulation reg-ulation regarding the use of the land for grazing purposes, the grass would be eaten off and nothing would b left lor the home stock. They further contend that the forest should be maintained for the protection of the watershed, from which tho farms of Vtrnou are Irrigated. Mr. Dun6ton made a careful investigation inves-tigation of the situation and will report re-port the conditions to the head of the forest department of the United States without recommendation. |
