Chi-cago. 1n greater numbers than ever before, are storing their furniture and going to live in boarding houses or In the country, according to managers of storage and van companies. They asstjn this condition of affairs to tho Increased cost of living. M. A. Carroll, preoldont of a largo storage and van company, said yesterday: yes-terday: "Tho striking aspect of our business busi-ness at present Is tho amount of household goods in storage. This has been our biggest year in that respect. "I know tho reason for this. It Is tho increased cogt of living. Rents have been rising of late. In Hyde Park, where most of our business Is carried on, flats rent at a rate of about $10 a room. A clerk cannot af-lord af-lord that, but he will not so to a cheaper neighborhood. Instead, he will go to a hotel or boarding house where he can live more cheaply among his own class of people." |
