Show TO KILL THEM NICK VACOS ORDERED TWO MEN NOT TO MOVE. Contos, After Being Shot, Was Conscious Con-scious and Realized He Was Dying Dy-ing A6ked For Paper. This morning Tonl Trakas was ngain put on the stand In the Nick Vacos murder trial by the attorney for the defense and all morning underwent un-derwent a severe cross-examination. He testified yesterday afternoon to having been, sitting with Louis Ban-kls Ban-kls near the stove when Vacos shot Contos. He said when Vacos shot Contos that he and Bankls ran towards the defendant, who leveled the gun on them and said. "Don't move or I'll kill you," and then with the gun moro behind him than to the front, rushed out and down the street. Witness and Bankls then went to the assistance of Contos whom they found behind tho counter on Ms bands and knees. They asked him why he hadn't guarded himself, and Contos said: "I'm dying. Have you any paper?" On cross-examination, Trakas said that Contos was expecting to furnish the money for Vacos, Trakas and himself him-self (Contos) to go Into a big business busi-ness and had talked about the size the place should be, etc. At the time of the shooting Contos was waiting upon a customer who ran when the shot was fired He did not know the customer, but Contos bad not ghen him the bag of candy, but held It In his hand when shot. The progress of the trial today and part of yesterday has been extremely extreme-ly tedious and seemJnjrlj unsatisfactory unsatisfac-tory to both sides, as the witness can not understand English and an interpreter in-terpreter has to be employed As a matter of fact, as In the translation of any language into English and back again. It is extremely hard to get every word absolutely correct as to the nanlng in Encllsh and no two Greeks this morning, when called upon, could give tho translation to a test sentence. |
