Show HERALD-REPUBLICAN'S DEFENSE. The Herald-Republican of Salt Lake, in an attempt to justify its premature disclosure of census figures, says papers in other cities are doing the same thing. We do not know of a paper in the United States that has made claim to publishing the official census returns, a3 has the Herald-Republican. Many of them have made estimates, as has the Standard, but the Salt Lake paper is alone in its boast of having sneaked into the census office and looted the place. The Standard demands an investigation of the "leak" in the census office in Salt Lake. We have confidence in Supervisor Mc-Millin Mc-Millin and arc convinced that, in whatever manner the Herald-Republican Herald-Republican committed its theft, the supervisor was not a party to the crime, and his innocence of wrong-doing makes more imperative impera-tive a probing into the methods of the men with a jimmy. |
