Show MUSICALE GIVEN FRIDAY. The musicals given undr the auspices aus-pices of the Ogden Historical society, soci-ety, at the home of Mts. Dr. J. S. Gordon on Friday of this week wan cne of the best and most entertaining entertain-ing iu the society's long list of good tilings hithetto given. Mr. Tracy Y. Cannon, one of L'tohV. noted musicians, gave a most icer-esting icer-esting and instructive talk on "Student "Stu-dent Life iu Berlin and Paris." Mr. Cannon told of the different famous musicians In Berlin and discussed Modern opera and the many advantages advan-tages to be gained by a musical environment, en-vironment, but, he also said that many Americans go abroad, spending money and time, when they should be better bet-ter prepared before leaving home. He told many interesting stories of student life and mude his listener feel that they were really In the Bcuutiful City of White Houses." an Berlin is often called. Of his life iu Pails with Guilmaut, the great organist, ho talked entertainingly enter-tainingly and rehearsed some of the differences between German musical styles and the French style, contrasting contrast-ing the German solid music with the French romantic style. Following hU talk he rendered a number of selections as a demonstration demonstra-tion of tho styles of music described in his lecture. Another feature of the afternoon was the singing of Mrs. W. G. Dairy tuple, tu-ple, one of Ogden's local favorites. Her rendition of "In a Garden of Roses" was heartily encored, to which h? responded, her daughter, MIha Evelyn, accompanying .ier on the piano. J Miss Fvru Farr played a dainty piano olo, which was well received. During the afternoon Judge Gunnel! Gun-nel! spoke on the fnuoding of a home for dependent children. The club members voted to appoint a committee commit-tee to meet with other Ogden node-tics node-tics to plan forn mass meeting to be held In the near future, at which earnest ear-nest effort will be made to begin the vork so earnestly urged by Judge Gunnell. j About seventy live ladles attended I the. meeting- |
