Show RIOT ON CANAL ZONE STARTED BY THE POLICE Colon, May 12 In a conflict he-tween he-tween Panaman police and employes of the canal zone, near the dividing line, C. M. Abbott, an electrician in the power house at Cristobal, an American, Am-erican, and a ncg.-o, also au American, Ameri-can, were killed. The. police crossed the zone at Cristobal Cris-tobal In nn efloit to arrest an escaped prisoner. The were mobbed and pelted by West Indians and finally were arrested by the zone police. Last night a number of Pauaman jKilico armed with lifles proceeded toward the zone in an attempt, It Is said, to find those who had maltreated their comrades earlier in the day. They came into collision with tho cana! workers and many shots were fireJ. Stones and other missiles were freely free-ly used. Electrician Abbott was killed by a blow on the bead and the negro was shot through the head. The riot became so threatening that all places of business w-ere cpalckly closed but eventually the " Invaders were driven off. Both the American and Panaman authorities are investigating. |
