Show INDICTED MEN ARE LEADERS They Have Confidence of Business Men of Oklahoma Muskogee, Feb. 4. Six leading business bus-iness men of Muskogee held a mass meeting at midnight last night that Listed until early today, to discus? seven indictments returned here late yesterday by tho federal grand Jury in the government's town lot Investigation. Investi-gation. The meeting was presided over by Mayor Martin. Expressions of confidence in the high standing,, integrity in-tegrity and honor of the indicted men were made, and a committee of seven members was appointed to correct I what was termed an erroneous Impression Impres-sion as to the legality of land titled existing in Muskogee and eastern Oklahoma. Ok-lahoma. More details became known today regarding the indictments. Tho first indictment returned, that against governor gov-ernor Charles N. Haskell. Clarence W. Turner and Walter R, Eaton, alleged forty-seven overt acts In allegpd conspiracies con-spiracies to defraud the government. The second indictment returned was against William' T. Hutchlns and Clar- ence W. Turner and alleged thirteen overt acts In conspiracy to defraud the government. The third Indictment Indict-ment was against Albert Z. English, Frederick B. Severs and Jesse HIM. and alleged ninety-two overt acts in conspiracy. Tho indicted men are among the most prominent in Oklahoma. Governor Gover-nor Charles N. Haskell Is Oklahoma's Jirst governor since statehood and was elected to that office in November, 1 fi07. He formerly lived at Ottawa, Ohio, and removed to this state in 1000. He became prominent In 'developing 'devel-oping the resources of Muskogee and was president of the Indlanola Contracting Con-tracting company which constructed many of the principal buildings hem He was treasurer of the Democratic r.atlonul committee for the first month of the Jast campaign. Clarence W. -Turner Is F.3 years of Age, and was born In Cleveland. Ohio. He is proprietor of the Turner Hardware Hard-ware company, and formerly was a member of the Muskogee City Council. Coun-cil. Walter R. Eaton is secretary of the Indianola Contracting company ot Muskogee. William T. Hutchlns is a lawyer and was born In Virginia. He was spoken of for Judge of the Oklahoma Supremo court, but declined to be a candidate for that office. Albert Z. English was born in New Jersey. He is manager of the Muskogee Musko-gee Title &. Trust company and tho Muskogee National Telephone company. com-pany. Mr. English is now in Los Angeles. An-geles. Cal., for his health. Frederick B. Severs, who Is seventy-four seventy-four years of age, was born in Arkansas Arkan-sas and came to what then was the Indiana territory when a young man. He taught In tho Indian schools, married mar-ried a half-breed Indian woman, bo-camo bo-camo a Creek citizen and was adopted adopt-ed by the Creek Indian council, engaged en-gaged In tho mercantile business in Muskogee and Okmulgee.
