Sam McVey, the negro heavyweight, who knocked a Jap JIu jltau expert cold with one punch in Paris the other night, has been telling Frenchmen some wonderful yarns about his ring achievements in this country, and the French newspapers never have printed print-ed much about American prize fights. McVey's statements have been accepted ac-cepted as gospel. McVey has gone Into details in saying say-ing how he has knocked out Jeffries. Corbett, Fitzsimmons, McCoy, Sharkey, Shark-ey, Maher. Choynski and Johnson and has declared with remarkable assurance assur-ance that he is the undisputed champion cham-pion of the world. As a result whenever McVey shows in the ring on the other side there Is great excitement and a large crowd. McVey, who hails from California, has met Johnson twice, losing one 20-round 20-round mill on a decision and being knocked out in the 20lh round of another an-other bout. The records do not show that McVey met any of the other pugilists pu-gilists named. He will have a chance to show how much of a fighter he is. however, when he tackles Joe Jeannette In Paris the latter part of the month. Jeannetto got a decision over McVey in a a 10-round 10-round bout about two years ago. |
