Show SUGAR FACTORY TO CLOSE FOR FEW DAYS The Ogden Sugar factory has been forced to suspend Its osmoslng operations for a week or more, owing to the shutting off of the water In the West Weber canal. ca-nal. It Is from this source that the entire supply of water for various factory fac-tory uses is obtained and. although the osmoslng is only partially finished for the Beason, It was deemed advisable advis-able to set about cleaning the canal at once for the approaching irrigating season. The annual cleaning of the canal necessitates tho shutting off of the en- tire head of water to permit the cutting cut-ting of grass and weeds as well as other accumulations which have gathered gath-ered during the winter and fall. The job Is usually completed In a week's time, as a large force of men Is put to work immediately In order that the sugar plant will not be dlscommod ed longer than Is absolutely necessary. neces-sary. Superintendent L. R. Eccles stated yesterday that about 300,000 pounds of sugar had been produced by the osmoslng plant since the work began two months or so ago, and that about two-thirds of the molasses to be run through was still on hand. It Is estimated esti-mated that about 60 days more will be consumed In completing the season's sea-son's run, especially If there Is any doublc-osmoslng to be done. The local factor as well as those at Lewiston and Logan are entirely out of ssugar pulp; in fact, the plants ran short of that commodity some lime ago. Tho Ogden factory worked over some 60.000 tons of beets which should have produced about 25 per cent that weight of pulp. The figures, however, ran considerably short this year, only about 13,000 tons being produced. I |
