Show OQDEN GIRL MARRIES A PRIEST SADIE MORAN CAUSES A SENSATION SENSA-TION IN DENVER. She Was Formerly a Telephone Operator Oper-ator and Bookkeeper In Ogden Is of a Good Family. A dispatch from Denver, dated Washington's Birthday, coneys the surprising information of the marriage of Sadie Moran of Ogden to Rev. Father Fath-er J. A. Ryan of Denver. The message mes-sage says: Disregarding his vow of celibacy. Rev. Father J. A. Ryan, until recently connected with SL Leo's Roman Catholic Cath-olic church in this city, was married to Miss Sadie Moran of 3006 Adama Mreet, Ogden. Utah, on January 30. The wedding took place at Colorado Springs and has just been discovered by the pastor of St. Leo's. Miss Moran, who Is a niece of Mrs. W. S. Wing, wife of the auditor ot the Colorado Midland railroad, was under no misapprehension as to Father Ryan's standing, and entered the bonds of matrimony with a full understanding under-standing that her action must result in the unfrocking of her husband. The marriage, license was issued in the names of Ambrose J. Ryan and Sadie Moran, but Mrs. Ryau tonight j admitted tho identity of both participants. partici-pants. . The Investigations made by St. Leo's church showed that Father Ryan Ry-an is a native of Oonada, and entered the Jesuit college at Montreal at an early age, to stuAjr for the priesthood. He did not succeed in passing the examinations ex-aminations for the priesthood, but took a tonsure degree. After leaving Montreal Mon-treal he came to the United States. Threo years ago he finished hla studies at the Franciscan monastary at Pittsburg and took the vows of a priest. After belnf ordained he went to Chicago. In 1908 he wrote to Rev. Father O'Ryan, pastor of St. Leo's, begging for a chance to come to Colorado, Colo-rado, and claiming to be a friend of a former collego professor of Father O'Ryan O'-Ryan In Ireland. He was brought liere and assisted Father O'Ryan at St. Leo's church. Father Ryan and Miss Moran met at a ball at the House, of the Good Shepherd on Dec. 2, and wero frequently fre-quently together after that time. Miss Moran was then employed as a telephone tele-phone operator for the Denver Cab & Omnibus company, but lost her position posi-tion in December, and since that time has been soliciting funds from the Catholics of Denver to take Father Ryan to California for his health. It was noticed by Father O'Kyan that Father Ryan acted peculiarly at times, and, a3 he aroused some antagonism an-tagonism among the members of St. Leo's church, his services were discontinued dis-continued late in December. Father O'Ryan will Institute proceedings in the district court tomorrow to determine deter-mine Ryan's 6anlty. The parents of Miss Moran, who are Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Moran, reside at the corner of Thirtieth street ' and Adams, avenue, and when 6een by a representative of the Standard at first .were loath to admit the facts regarding re-garding their daughter's marriage) Mrs. Moran finally stated that, . although al-though she had. received no word regarding re-garding the matter from her daughter, she was convinced that the marriage was a fact, as a relative in Denver had gone to Colorado Springs a week ago and, upon searching the records, had discovered the record of the marriage of Mies Sadie Moran and J. A. Ryan, the ceremony having been performed by a Justice of the peace. Mrs. Moran is heart-broken over the matter both from a deeply religious standpoint and tho suddenness and secrecy used in connection with tho affair. She received a letter Monday from the young lady, who is only 21 years of age, stating that she wished to come home immediately and explain certain matters. . She said nothing of the reported marriage which she would probably have denied had there been no truth 'in the story. Father Rvan is a man about forty vears old Who had held a subordinate position in St. Leo's church until recently re-cently and Is known by Mrs. Moran. Miss Moran is well known In Ogden, having been employed as book-keeper at the Fred Nye Clothing establishment establish-ment for some time. She left that concern less than a year ago aud has since been working in Denver. She was in Ogden during the holidays, visiting vis-iting with her parents and friends, but mado no mention of her love affairs in Colorado. The Sudden news comes as a distinct shock to all who know her. Her family Is eminently respectable respect-able and a host of friends will wait in sympathy for further facts regarding regard-ing the young woman's venture.
