Show MANUFACTURERS Of RECORDS ARE BANKRUPT PETITION AGAINST LEEDS & CAT-LIN CAT-LIN FILED BY CREDITORS. Company Is One of the Largest Concerns, Con-cerns, Making Disc and Cylinder Talking Machine Records. New York, June 22. Alleging liabilities liabil-ities of $1,000,000, a petition in bankruptcy bank-ruptcy was filed yesterday afternoon ' against the Ieeds & Catlln company, manufacturers and wholesale dealers I In disc and cylinder records for talking talk-ing macliines, by Leonard Gronner, attorney for several creditors. The judge, in the United States district court, said he would consider the appointment ap-pointment of a receiver today. The petition alleges that the company Is Insolvent, and asks for preferential pajment of $10,000 and transferred assets of $5,000. The Leeds & Catlln company is one of the largest concerns in that line of business in the country. It has a large factory at Middletown, Conn., with offices In New York, Chicago, Pittsburg. Philadelphia, St. Louis, Denver and San Francisco. Tho company com-pany was Btarted in 1892, on a small .capital, and worked up to an enormous business. The company's statement of August 21, 1908. showed liabilities of $661,120 and assets of $2,003,000. A recent decision of the United States supreme coyjt, holding that this company had been infringing on tho basic patent of another large concern con-cern at Camden, N. J., is believed tr have been responsible for the action yesterday. Following this decision thousands of retailers throughout the country notified noti-fied the Leeds & Catliu company, it Is said, that they would not pay for tho stock they'had on hand, for fear of claims from the company held to be the rightful owner of the patent. |
