Show NARROWLY ESCAPES ..DEATH-'. FALLS FROM PERPENDICULAR ! CLIFF IN OGDEN CANYON. Leland Brown Suffers Severe Scalp Wound In Fall of One Hundred Hun-dred Feet. Leland Brown met with a serious accident ln Ogden canyon yesterday, his scalp being badly torn and other bruises about the body were received. That death did not result is a miracle. He was out In Ogden canyon with two companions, David Williams and Vol-ney Vol-ney Bailey, taking pictures of the various points '6f interest, and when about two miles from the mouth of the gorge attempted to scale one of the high cliffs In order to get a view of the other side. The rocks at this point are almost perpendicular, and, bis companions warned him to desist' in his efforts to reach . the point of vantage be sought for, but he Insisted on going still nlgher. When nearing the top he was seen by his horrified companions com-panions to lose his footing and come tumbling down the side of tho cliff. He is said by his companions to have fallen at least a hundred feet before he struck ground, and then rolled some distance. When picked up he was unconscious and bleeding from many wounds. ' After rendering all the first aid In their possession his companions carried car-ried him to tho roadway, where they hailed a passing automobile and the unfortunate lad was brought back to the city, whe he was taken to Dr. Browning's office and his wounds cared for. ' Bxaminatior of the place from which he fell shows even more plainly what an extremely narrow escape from death the boy had. The particular partic-ular spot where he struck tho ground after his perpendicular fall is covered by a. thick growth of brush, although on all sides of this one small place are sharp, jagged rocks, : unprotected by vegetation of anv sort. Had he fallen more than a few : feet to either side of the spot where he did,' death could have been the only result. '-' Leland is the son of Mrs. Hattie "Brown," who resides at 2GI0 Orchard avenue: " He is 17 years of age and the oldest -of five children. His father was William A.' Brown, who as chief of police In this'city met death at the hands of the notorious Abe Majors, who is now serving a life sentence for ( his crime. - |
