Show SALACIOUS CASE IN COtJRT DRAWS A LARGE AUDIENCE OF MEN AND WOMEN. Montgomery May Know His Fate Within a Few Hours Court Room Crowded. The case of the state of . Utah against Lorenzo Montgomery, charged charg-ed with a statutory offense with Ruby Stanford, 17 years of age, and which it was thought would go to the Jury last ovenlng, still continues to occupy occu-py the attention of court and jurors, and will probably be given to the Jury late this afternoon. The defendant makes an ideal witness wit-ness in his own behalf and emphatl cally denies bis guilt and the story told by the young girl, in which be is implicated. Corrohative evidence in behalf of the defendant was given by J. 17 Alvord, Joeeph Bailey, David Spackman. Wm. J. Francis and Mr. Llndford. and defendant's attorney is putting up what Is considered a pretty pret-ty strong defense, while all the witnesses wit-nesses for the defendant are undergoing under-going eharp interrogations from District Dis-trict Attorney Harris. The seating capacity of the court room was crowded to the limit today, and even standing room wm at a premium prem-ium thJg afternoon with nearly a dozen ladies scattered through the audience and listening intently to every word which rolled from the lips of those occupying the witness box. Whether the large attendance Is duo to the wide acquaintance of the principal prin-cipal actors in the sensational drama or Is the result of morbid curiosity on the part of those anxious to hear evidence of a carmlne-tlnted nature, Is not known, but the craning of neckB, the whispered comment and the presence pres-ence of women standing in the aisles and leaning against the door frames on the Inside of the court room, in order to hear the evidence adduced, indicates in-dicates absorbing Interest of some kind. |
