Colorado Springs, Colo., June 23. Six armed men, supposedly, from Victor, Vic-tor, Colo., early this morning hold up Caretaker Aithuir. of the Colorado Springs water system, opened the flood gates on Pike's Peak and turned 174 milliou gallons of water into the Victor Vic-tor reservoir. Caretaker Arthur was held a prisoner for some time, but finally escaped and telephoned to the city for help. Sheriff Blrdsall, of El Paso county, with a posse of ten armed arm-ed men, left immediately for the scene. The water supplies for Colorado Springs and the Cripple Creek district dis-trict are located on the slopes of Pike's Peak, and disputes over them are frequent causes of friction between be-tween the two cities. It seems that Victor is short of water this year, although al-though Colorado Springs has bad an ample- supply, having 900.000,000 gallons gal-lons left after the theft of this morn-ing. morn-ing. i . . |
